Here’s what happened on Day One of the writers’ strike: more than 3,000 men and women walked the picket line in Los Angeles; talk shows like The Tonight Show, Ellen, and The Daily Show shut down; a guild member was struck by an expletive-hurling driver while walking the picket line in Hollywood.
Here’s what didn’t happen on Monday: a deal between the producers and the writers. What’s more, no further talks were scheduled. But there were some (small) victories on Monday. The guild was able to lure celebs like Jay Leno, Marg Helgenberger, Tina Fey, and Amy Poehler to the picket lines, and fellow picketers in Hollywood were able to take the keys away from that angry driver who ran over the scribe’s foot and leg until cops got to the scene. A WGA spokesman confirmed the incident. Only in L.A….

I support the writers guild.
I just wish there was more I could do. Can I, or any member of the public, send letters to anyone, expressing our support?
I’d like the see the speech writers in Washington join the strike. Let the American people see what our elected officials and Presidential candidates are REALLY like. Talk about Reality T.V.
Can someone please explain to me why Ellen’s show would have to shut down? She’s a standup comedian who I assumed wrote all of her own material…
I am not surprised the studios don’t want to pay the writers. I saw a news story last night and the picketers were chanting something like “they’ve got more money than they can count. What do we call them: Paramount”. Seriously, if you are a professional writer and that is the best chant you can come up with, maybe you don’t deserve a raise.
