'Pushing Daisies': Cute and family friendly, to boot

Tags:

Daisies_l We’re not sure if this qualifies as a tree falling in the woods, but the Family Friendly Programming Forum a feel-good gambit by the Association of National Advertisers has named its squeaky-clean faves for its ninth annual Family Television Awards: Pushing Daisies (best new series), Ugly Betty (best comedy), Heroes (best drama), High School Musical 2 (best movie musical), Planet Earth (best miniseries or special), Kyle X (best cable series), and Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader? (best reality show). The forum also singled out HSM’s Zac Efron, Friday Night Lights’ Kyle Chandler, and Betty’s America Ferrera as family-friendly actors and named Chuck’s Zachary Levi as the favorite newcomer. The Forum’s ninth annual awards show (which taped last night) will air Dec. 27 on The CW.

    Olah.

I think this is good news – “Ugly Betty” is the most flamingly gay show on TV. It is nice that it is recognized as Family-Friendly — many right-wingnuts would think it comes from Satan. (New York and Homos and Mexicans? Oh my!)

Let’s all go to Guadalajara by way of Chelsea, NY to celebrate!

I’m so glad that Kyle XY is also on the family-friendly show list – it is one of my favorite shows, it is great for adults and kids as well, and handles some controversial social issues with compassion and maturity. It has gotten a lot of flak from ‘family-values’ types because it is so gay-friendly (even to the point that the lead kids commit acts of civil disobedience in support of gay/lesbian rights) and because it addresses controversial family issues like sex and drugs, but it presents actions and consequences in a really reasonable and responsible way. A great show!

So great that KYLE XY was recognized. It is a hugely entertaining, wonderfully written and acted show, and it deals with relationships and issues in a fresh, funny and emotional way. Fantastic show!

I love, love, love “Pushing Daisies” but it’s chock full of corpses and highly sexual double entendres (Beaver Boy, anyone?) I think it does have kid appeal on certain levels, as gruesome murders are a part of fairy tales, but it is a surprising choice.
And I love “Ugly Betty” but didn’t these people see the episode where they make multiple jokes about Duck semen and the Duck “quacking off”?

    Honeybee,
As far as the jokes on Pushing Daisies and Ugly Betty, most kids aren’t going to get them. Maybe I was just more naiive than the average 10 year old, but I remember watching movies like Spaceballs (full of double entendres) and not getting 90% of it. Then I watched it 7 years later and realized what all the jokes were (mega maid going from suck to blow). So I don’t think those kind of comments neccessarily make something less family-friendly.

Umm….I love Heroes, but it is not really family friendly, at all. It can be very violent.

Wow! Kyle XY.. I actually love that show.. =) it’s great that it was recognized

Happy to read this but surprised considering the revealing attire on both Ugly Betty and Pushing Daisies. Not that I am complaining…
