'Friday Night Lights' to DirecTV?

Tagged:

EW.com hears that Universal has talked to DirecTV about airing original episodes of Friday Night Lights. The TV company has been trying to shop the critically acclaimed drama to other networks because the Kyle Chandler drama hasn’t performed well for NBC; it only averaged 6 million-plus viewers this season, and typically finished third in its time slot. Universal also talked to The CW about picking up the drama, according to one insider, but the license fee could make the deal too prohibitive for the No. 5 network. The last episode of FNL aired on NBC Feb. 8.

Should Universal close a deal with DirecTV, this wouldn’t be a first for the studio and the satellite provider. Universal began producing original episodes of the daytime drama Passions for DirecTV in early 2007 after NBC canceled the low-rated sudser.

I hate satellites. But I don’t care. If it happens I will get a satellite JUST to watch it.

Noooooo!!! Come on you cheap wankers – first you do absolutely ZERO promo for this awesome show – even when critics and fans are lurving it. Now you’re too stingy to pony up the license fees for CW or another regular network?? You owe us that much!!

This show better get picked up! I tuned in this season and became addicted. It is one of my top 5 shows now. I’ll be so sad if it does not come back!!

What in the world? Why would you put it somewhere where it will get less viewers? Everyone doesn’t have satellite. I guess I just don’t understand why they can’t put in on USA, but I guess since NBC Universal still owns that channel they feel like they’ll be losing money.

There is so much smut and junk on TV. This to me was one of the better shows!!! The actors and writers were incredible to me… Some say it was too cliche. So what… Life is a cliche. But there is something to be said for how instinctively well the actors played these parts. Anyway… I’m glad that even though NBC was stupid enough to let it go that someone had the brain to pick it up again – even if it means I’ll have to wait until it comes out on DVD to see it.
