Simon is a hell of a driver, he holds the number one position over at Top Gear.
I’ve only seen A. Idol the last couple of years. Having played several instruments in high school, I always decide before Simon – or the other judges – say their bit. And I find that I ALWAYS agree w/Simon’s “take.” Simply put, Simon knows music, which is something you can’t teach: One can practice 8 hrs a day, but w/out that intuitive feel, which brings the magic out of the performance – you have nothing. Simon is always honest and correct in his judgments. Simply put, the show would not succeed without him.

David Cook is absolutely amazing. This guy has now taken two very 80′s POP songs and turned them into ROCK ballad hits right now, no question about it. (get him into a studio and get the complete versions of those songs recorded now.) Having a great voice is fine but you really need to have what most lack on IDOL and that is “Command Performance.” You have to sell the song not just sing it. And with someone like David Cook’s talent, too convince someone like me that, dare I say the King of Pop and Richie songs can make great Rock songs, is a leap even Simon could not possibly imagine. and PS the other David still needs to mature and grow up. Maybe season 10 for him might be better, good voice but its that other thing I mentioned he painfully lacks…….my 2 cents!!!
Like David C, my comment is not original
Yay, Simon and EW – stop the madness of the “mosh pit”!! And I freaking LOVE David C!!
Why are all the judges being so unduly critical and harsh on David Archuleta? David Archuleta’s performance this week was fantastic!
And so what if the song isn’t well known – isn’t it AS original to choose a lesser known song vs, lets say, rip off a cover of famous one? Why should one be praised as “original” and the other derided as “theme park-ish” mainly on the basis because the singer is a hot favourite?
Also, to the producers on AI – please do stop these feeble efforts to undermine David Archuleta’s popularity by not giving him a solo part in the group performance and only highlighting the negative comments received on his song (i.e. “You’re the Voice”, and “Another Day in Paradise”). It’s not that bad a thing to have such an incredible crowd-puller as the winner of American Idol. Might give the show some much needed credibility as this potential winner will actually be able to sell albums!
I think that not only was David Cook the best this week, but he was the best in the first week of the Top 12, too. Last week he was merely “one of the best”.
I agree that I would like to see the “Mosh Pit” (a bunch of 12-15 year old girls waving arms, usually not in sync) removed. And please, do not call it a “Mosh Pit” unless there is actual kicking and punching and blood being shed. (i.e. general admission to pack ‘em in – no chairs allowed)
THANK YOU. Seriously – the arm waving needs to stop! I can’t imagine ANYONE who enjoys it: not the singer, not the rest of the audience (TV or live) and definitely NOT the drones.
David Cooks performance was great no matter where the “arrangement” came from. If he had done All Along The Watchtower would people be complaining he did the Dylan version, Hendrix, Dave Mathews, or Michael Hedges? Unless he did it as Country Western or a Gregorian Chant someone would say it was a rip-off.
Simon is the man!
I too find the ridiculous arm-waving annoying, reminds me of a lot of cult-wannabes- even more annoying is the audience sneering and booing to cut off Simon whenever he tells the truth they don’t want to listen to. Whenever I disagree with him, it’s usually because he’s being too kind.
Really, Simon’s opinion is the only one that matters. He’s harsh but fair because this is exactly what the music industry will be like for these potential recording artists.
I didn’t start out liking David Cook but now I think he’s one of the best I’ve ever seen on AI. “Billie Jean” was one of a handful of great performances on the the show. My favorite to this day is Kelly Clarkson’s “Stuff like that.” You tube it if you haven’t seen it.
Thank you thank you thank you!!Obnoxious does not quite really describe those moshpit clones. I’m sure they are so distracting to the contestants. They distract the viewers as well as, I guess, the judges. That’s obvious when the judges say great job, when it obviously wasn’t.The best thing for all concerned is to get rid of the ‘extras’ and concentrate on the contestants.Oh yeah, lower the band and backup singers too.It seems sometimes that the contestants have to really scream in order to either hear themselves or for the audience at home to really hear them. Again, thank you thank you thank you.
I want to second what everybody here has been saying: 1) Simon is the best Judge. Without him, AI is unwatchable. 2) The next time those morons start arm waving during a ballad, they should all be tear-gassed. Well okay, no one else has said that until now, but who’s with me? I guarantee you it would never happen again, no matter how much Nigel begged for it, lol.
If anyone has the power to stop the soulless arm-wavers, it’s Simon. Please help us, Simon! You are our last hope!
