David Cook gives Doxology its 'Idol' due -- we got the band's response

You didn’t have to pay extra-close attention to David Cook’s introduction on Tuesday night to hear him credit Doxology (pictured with Cook inset), the little-known Read the full post.

To Allie: Not that I’m a Doxology fan, but Whitney Houston is a gazillionare & these guys probably live with their parents ; ) Makes the need to get acknowledged a little more pressing.

Good. It’s over. Let’s move on. David sang it well. AI producers choose who to give the shout outs too so if anyone is to blame it is them for not given proper credit. However, that being said, listen to their version on iTunes and the dozens of other artist’s that pop up. Everyone has ripped something from each other. But now credit has been given we can move on to the next AI scandal.

  • Vader

It was really nice of Idol and David Cook to credit Doxo publically. They wasted 30 seconds of airtime for the sake of those whining crybabies. If only they had taken my advice and just sent Luke McFearsome an envelop with a chocolate cookie. And they’re not just whiners, they’re hypocrites too, expecting us to believe that this has nothing to do with money. It’s painfully obvious that they saw that David Cook’s star was rising, and took the opportunity to leech off his fame by clamouring for acknowledgement. They would never have done this if David Cook had performed badly.

  • Elyza

Yeah, blame it on them. Not David.C because he can sing it well. Great! So he is off the hook even after this? Wutever, everybody already knows about it anyway. Let’s turn to the votes and see then.

How ironic that David gave out the credits to doxology who seemed so desperate to “right a wrong”. Makes me wonder if all this b.s. from rock wannabes didn’t add to the stress that sent him to the hospital last night. No one is talking about that.
    –> so freaking true!

  • AntiPoser

Stealing is good! Especially you are a rock star [or not even yet!]! [I luv rockstar, now not so sure hurm.....]

I listened to Doxology’s version of Eleanor Rigby, and I have to say, it sounded pretty close to the original. David Cook, on the other hand, performed the heck out of that song. The only thing Doxology proved is that David Cook is a much better performer or singer than any of them.

Probably acknowledged Cornell and Whitesnake because people actually have a clue who they are, unlike Doxology or whatever their name is. boo hiss

what’s the quote? “good artists copy, great artists steal”? david cook is a much better singer/performer than those dudes from doucheology anyway. and knowing all the things he’s going through right now, it makes all this “cover of a cover” nonsense seem even more trivial than it already did.

  • Cathy

OK, Doxology, you finally got what you wanted and what you deserved. All this national attention has put a short spotlight on you. What you do with the spotlight now as far as your original music is what counts. So do it!
I never heard the other guy, somebody ______ Zaza, get all up in arms about his cover being used without credit. He might have just been really surprised last night.
It was really obvious when listening to David’s recordings that there was more there than just what Doxology did. I really only heard the keyboard notes as the same. The vocals were completely different, and a lot better, too. I did really like Doxology’s keyboards at the end of their version though (which didn’t make it on either of David’s versions).

Vader. You don’t get it. Whitney doesn’t do covers and if she did, you can be sure that there would be mention of it. Why? Because Whitney’s big-time. And AI is right up there with her. David’s songs choices were original songs, rearranged by another artist. That rearrangement takes a lot of time and effort and should be at least acknowledged! A couple of seconds of air-time, no big deal. I’d want it if it were my arrangement. It matters not whether I’m huge or a nobody. It’s my arrangement and I want it acknowledged!

  • Gwen

And, I still don’t like their arrangement. If anything, DCook showed just how much better he was. I hope their happy. By the way, who was the other band he mentioned along with this one? I don’t hear them crying.

  • ARRRGGGG

And if Chris Cornell’s name were not mentioned, he’d be whining too. You can bet on it.

  • DS9Sisko

ARRRGHH: Whitney doesn’t do covers????? Have you ever heard of a little song called “I Will Always Love You”????? Ask, ironically enough, Dolly Parton if that wasn’t a cover. Or “I’m Every Woman,” originally sung by Chaka Khan. Ot “The Greatest Love of All.” Or “All the Man I Need,” originally sung by Sister Sledge. It’s ignorant comments like yours that only underscore how intellectually constipated some of these whiners are about this stuff.
