No, his show is not in competition with AI – it is on a different day and time and it is country not pop – so WRONG -

  • Melinda

John Rich keeping it real. Wouldn’t have expected anything else from him. It’s so nice to see industry professionals stepping up in defense of these contestants. I am personally appalled at the treatment Jason has received this season. Such disrespect is completely unwarranted for such a talented and kind person.
And the effort made to defend Paula after Tuesday night’s slip-up was pathetic. She and the show should be made to publicly apologize to Jason. After Tuesday, it was obvious to me that American Idol already has their critiques carefully planned before the contestants even step up to the mic to perform.
If this continues, American Idol will no longer receive my support as a viewer.

i just hope this “outrage” would be the same if paula had said this to syesha. but somehow, i feel it wouldn’t. draw your own conclusion.

  • Flower Power

Thanks for saying what so many Castro fans were thinking. I had never seen anything more disrespectful in my life! Then no one even apoloogized to him??? Shame on you Paula and AI. Someone needs to apologize to Jason on the air!!

  • kay

You go John Rich!!!!! I agree completely. Just keepin it real aren’t you. Look forward to you future work………

To the poster calling themselves Jason: Yes I would be just as outraged by the cruel acts of Paula and AI if there were directed at Shyesha,David A., Brooke or David C..None of these talented young people deserves treatment like that, but that facts are, Jason Castro is the one being bad mouthed, not just in the big slip up on the air but on countless talk shows and in the press. Not only by the judges but also by one of the producers. There is a rather large spin machine at work to try to sway people to vote to make AI happy. If they want more viewers, maybe they should respect the contestants and the public.

After reading the latest comments, I felt compelled to add a few more of my own. Yes, I am a Castro fan, but I would be equally appalled if they had done this to any other contestant. I was utterly disgusted with Michael Johns’ elimination earlier in the season. Not with the fact that he left, but with the disrespectful way in which it was handled. There is obviously no concern whatsoever for the feelings of these young people. I know they signed up for it, but I don’t think a little bit of human decency or common courtesy is too much to ask for. To me, the lack of respect they have shown the contestants also shows a lack of respect for the viewing public. If the powers that be would do a little research before spouting off their mouths, they would realize that the majority of Jason’s fans are NOT teenyboppers, nor are we idiots. We are the ones who are lining their pockets now by downloading iTunes (where Jason has outsold the others) and by purchasing CDs in the future.

If this had happened to their Davids, you bet ya’lls bottom dollar that an apology would be forthcoming and quick. They have been shoving the Davids down our face from day one. I give props to all the contestants even trying a lot or a little – they know they are not wanted. Why watch AI anymore when they have manipulated it to what they want to make money. It used to be the public choice, it is not really anymore as you can see how they script their comments to bias the votes.

  • penny

I agree Rhonda – I am a happily married woman over 30 and I angers me that they believe the viewing public is so stupid as to not get what they are doing. Thank you Paula for showing us and I actually feel sorry for you – Simon the producers are enabling you and using your addictions and mess ups to boost ratings – I hope they are happy when you overdose because of the stress of it all. (i sure hope that doesnt happen though)

Let’s talk outrage for a second — did anyone see Rich’s show “Gone Country”. Julio iglesias jr. won with the least country and worst song on the show — shockingly, it was released to radio in March and didn’t even chart.

  • Thank you

John Rich sums up what is wrong with AI. It’s one thing to be tough, but the disrespect is awful. And it’s not just what Paula did, it’s all the crap that has been said and done in general on that show.
Contestants not getting song choices, being “forced” to sing songs they don’t feel comforable singing, the pimping of some contestants, commenting on clothes, etc.
Yes, John Roch is plugging his show, but he’s making a point that NS will not follow in the footsteps of AI and I applaud that.
I’m glad Jason made it through this week.

  • Jonathan

    Oh please, get over yourself.

  • BetJo

Darn! When I first looked at the picture of this “country star” I thought I was looking at that “pregnant man” that appeared on Oprah. Looks EXACTLY like him/her.

  • Lou

While I agree that Paula should have apologized to Jason, I think John Rich is being overly dramatic. American Idol is not their “whole lives” dangling in front of them by a thread. Give me a break. I think most of the contestants from the top 8 this year will have bright careers ahead of them. American Idol is just the diving platform. If that happened earlier in the season, it may have been more damning. As it stands, Castro gets another chance.

  • Ms. Scarlett

Thank you John Rich. Finally someone who has the “chutzpah” to tell it like it is. I find it completely appalling that Ms. Abdul should be allowed to get away with such biased, unprincipled behavior. I used to have a modicum more of respect for Ms. Abdul over Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson. But now she is just one more in that rat pack.
I wonder…how Idol sleeps at night.
