'American Idol' finale rumors

Jonasbrothers_l
With the American Idol finale but mere hours away, who, besides season 7′s Top 12, will take the Nokia Theater stage on Wednesday’s two-hour results show extravaganza? Simon Cowell’s pride and joy Carrie Underwood, who seems to never turn down an Idol request, was announced as a special performer, and we hear disco queen Donna Summer, rock legends ZZ Top, and teen sensations the Jonas Brothers (pictured) are also on tap.

Idol finale billing always seems to follow a policy of last-minute announcements. By virtue of the show’s live format, it also favors pre-taping, like last year’s performance by Green Day of John Lennon’s “Working Class Hero.” Considering this season’s ratings dip, however, we wouldn’t be surprised if there is a surprise or two thrown in.

“Who will take the stage at the finale – Simon Cowell’s pride and joy Carrie Underwood, who seems to never turn down an Idol request, was announced as a special performer…”
Boy, you got that right!! It’s like she’s so afraid of fading into oblivion that she takes every opportunity to be on the show to make sure people still remember she’s around. Carrie Underwood is to American Idol what Drew Lachey was to Dancing with the Stars. They both won their seasons, but don’t know how to let go and move on with their lives!!!!

I’m more excited about seeing David Cook sing than any of those “stars.” David Cook will be singing “Always Be My Baby” as a duet with Mariah Carey (that’s what I heard). And I read on foxnews that David Cook is the first contestant to get a U2 song cleared to sing on idol, “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For.” Another really hard song to do, hmmmm. I bet David Cook can pull it off. He pulled off “Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” Aerosmith’s hit by D. Warren. DC pulled off “Music of the Night” and “First Time Ever I Saw Your Face”–I even thought this one was going to be a struggle for David. But nope, he did all of these songs effortlessly, like he was meant to do it all his life!

I still think David Cook’s version of FTEISYF was over 2 octaves, and he started out high on this song, too.

I read somewhere that the So You Think You Can Dance kids are performing in the opening.

I’m not much of a Carrie Underwood fan – though she sings very well and is gorgeous – but I think she comes back more as a “thank you for launching my career” than a hope to not be forgotten.

Gross-you are totally wrong. Carrie knows she owes everything to American Idol, so coming back is her way of giving back. Carrie is at the top right now and could just as well snub the show, but she has more class than that.

Oooo, I hope that U2/David Cook rumor is true! And he can play Edge’s guitar riffs himself. That’s a dream come true. As for Carrie, she’s never forgotten where she came from. Remember she had never even been on a plane before she competed on Idol, so she isn’t one to put on airs about the show.

This has been driving me nuts all season. Why does Simon keep his elbow on poor Paulas chair?Doesnt it drive her batty?

RE: the comment from “carrie’s gross”; I am not a country music fan, but Carrie U. is a major star, and good for her that is willing to play on AI as a nice gesture, I don’t think “fading into oblivian” is happening any time soon! I would love to see Josiah Lemming play tonight, he is definitely the one that got away this season- what were they thinking?

Squirlley — Cook is not the first to get a U@ song cleared. Elliott Yamin sang “One” as a duet with Mary J Blige. “One” is a U2 song.

What planet do you live on. Carrie has far and exceeded moving on. She has sold millions of cd’s, and won every award except the Oscar. Do a Google search on Carrie Underwood, and you will see how she has branched out in her life, and MOVED ON.

  • mimi

yea… fading into oblivion = winning multiple country music awards and selling billions of CDs. There is no way Carrie is fading away anytime soon… st don’t think “Carries Gross” is listening to country music at all.

  • Weed Killa

Carrie Underwood is and will continue to be under contract to Simon Fuller, which is why she and a slew of other former contestants make appearances…theyre required to.

I guess you did not hear that Carrie just won CMA’s Female Vocalist of the Year among other numerous awards. I think she has moved on; just thankful to her start in life unlike Kelly Clarkson.
