Switchfoot "honored" by David Cook's rendition of their song

Among the music notables on the green carpet at Los Angeles’ Greek Theater the other night (to view the final stage showdown of Battleground Earth: Ludacris vs. Tommy Lee, a month-long campaign/reality show airing on the brand new Planet Green network) were San Diego rockers Switchfoot, whose hit “Dare You to Move” was one of the three final numbers that clinched David Cook’s American Idol win. Singer Jon Foreman told EW.com he was “honored” by the performance, which the band watched live. “We had just taped Leno and were over at a buddy’s house for a barbeque when it came on,” he said. “It was kind of a surreal moment. It’s a really tough song to sing and I think he did a great job.” As for Cook’s future prospects? “People get all up in arms about the concept of instant success, but who knows what he’s gone through to get here or where he’ll head,” said Foreman. “Ultimately, I think it’s about music winning, and making music fans out of kids who can discover these older songs. It’s better than playing video games.”

The following is from the Myspace blog page of the winner of the 2008 American Idol Songwriting Competition……. Mr. Regie Hamm……….and
    he does not seem happy.
“AMERICAN IDOL, MAGIC RAINBOWS …AND DOTTIE”
“The guy in the feather suit who wrote the song for Simon had his own photo stand where you could have your picture taken with him.
Hmmmm, maybe next time I’ll write a song so campy it simply must be performed in front of fifty million people with the USC marching band. At
least then I might have my name mentioned or my face shown …but I digress.” End quote.
American Idol made a lot of money off this contest and the ONLY thing we got in return was a thanks for the $10.00 email.
P.S. I dare you to sign up for the American Idol Forums (Songwriting) and post a question or comment about this and see how long it takes till
the forum moderators delete it. Don’t worry you won’t have to wait long.

The following quote is from the only link American Idol.com has concerning the songwriting contest. (It’s under the Show Guide Link….American
    Idol Songwriter)
    “The Nation Has Decided”
“Who Has Won? Tune in to the American Idol Finale on May 20th and 21st 2008 to find out.” End quote.
Like I said….I watched. And here’s the only thing said about the winner.
Ryan Seacrest……”Ladies and gentlemen singing the winning song of this years competition…Time Of My Life..this..is..your American Idol David
    Cook, Goodnight.” End quote.
9 days later American Idol has yet to name the winner. It’s not in the American Idol news section, not on the American Idol
    homepage…………..Nothing.
Last year the winner’s were introduced on camera by Ryan Seacrest. This year nada.

False Advertising Or Bald Face Lie? You Decide.
I’m posting this May 31, 2008, 10 days after the American Idol Grand Finale.
I watched American Idol both nights of the grand finale waiting for the announcement of the winners name of the 2008 American Idol
    Songwriting Competition….and I’m still waiting.

Huh? “Dare you to Move”? What song was that? The songs on iTunes from the finale are: “Dream Big”; “The world I know”; and “I don’t want to miss a thing”. He sang “The time of my life” the winning number. When did David sing this Switchfoot song? Hmm, I have to go and watch my DVD recording of the finale it seems. Any help out there???

  • Cathy

I think Shirley’s a little confused. “Dare You to Move” was David Cook’s choice for the final three competition (he also sang Simon’s choice, “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face,” and the producers’ choice, “I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing,” that same night). On the top two competition, he sang Clive’s choice, “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For,” his choice of the top ten nominated original songs, “Dream Big,” and his personal choice, “The World I Know.”

Thanks Cathy: This is exactly what I have downloaded from iTunes. The writer of the article is very confused I am thinking.

regie hamm who is a singer, songwriter lives in Nashville and is the writer of the finale song. He has a myspace page too. I am surprised they didn’t announce the winner the night of the finals. Regie was in the audiance far as I know. I like the song, it has a catchy tune and easy to remember words.
