Now that we’ve come to grips with the fact that According to Jim is actually going to return for another breathtaking season — its eighth! — on ABC, we have some other news to report: Hollywood veteran Penny Marshall (A League of Their Own) has agreed to lend a hand in the directing department. She may helm a few episodes when the sitcom starring Jim Belushi and Courtney Thorne-Smith (pictured) returns mid-season — if not sooner, should one of ABC’s new or returning shows falter this fall. Jim already has a head start; it is currently shooting episode five of the new season.
Though the family comedy isn’t exactly breaking Nielsen records (its five telecasts last winter averaged only 5.3 million viewers), According to Jim has value in syndication, and an extra season can only add to the company coffers. And Belushi shows no signs of fatigue. In fact, the actor made headlines at the beginning of the 100-day writers strike last November when he decided to continue production on his sitcom, even though his writers were walking the picket line and the rest of TV had pretty much shut down. No, Belushi didn’t step up to write the show he also executive produces; he had five scripts in hand that had yet to be shot.

I have to admit that I like “According to Jim.” Sue me.
It’s not “How I Met Your Mother,” but I laugh at it more than I do watching “The Big Bang Theory” or some of the other comedies. It’s very simple comedy. Although I haven’t loved EVERY episode, I can’t ask for much more with all the other options I have.
If there was any doubt that Jim Belushi sold his soul to the devil, it’s now been entirely removed.
NOOOOOOooooooo :::gasp::: oooooo. Not to Penny, who I love, but to the fact that the show still even exists.
Yeah, I agree, this show isn’t as bad as people make it out to be. It is what it is, just sometimes mindless fun. It doesn’t pretend to be a pretentious uber-comedy. Almost always a fun half hour watching this show.
I’ve never watched it, so I don’t know if it’s funny or not (maybe I will give it a chance) — but I had no idea it was still even on the air. :O
this show is great! good job ABC!
Laverne!!! Don’t do it!!!
Tsunamis, floods, wildfires, high gas prices, and this show reaching its 8th season…the apocalypse is defintiely coming.
Why hasn’t Penny Marshall been directing big screen movies anymore? No offense against Jim, but why is she doing low rated sitcoms as opposed to higher profile stuff?
