CBS' 'Big Brother' has a senior moment

Tags:

For the love of Bengay, it looks like Big Brother will finally add a mature player (we’re talking septuagenarian here, people) to the cast when the show returns to CBS this Sunday. CBS is expected to reveal the entire cast tomorrow morning on The Early Show, but EW.com has already learned that a 75-year-old man (and ardent fan of the franchise) will be among the players vying for the $500,000 cash prize this summer. For a show that typically features 20-something hotties with gorgeous bodies, recruiting a great grandfather is a (welcome) first for the show.

"It’s the most diverse cast we’ve ever had in terms of ages, backgrounds, points of view, and personalities," executive producer Allison Grodner says of the next installment. "Big Brother 9 involved couples, singles, and soul mates who were young, single, impulsive, and ready to party. We do a 180 with Big Brother 10. This summer you’re going to find a 22-year-old body builder and a 75-year-old great grandpa in the house, and everyone else in between. We’ve had diversity of age in past, but he’s clearly the oldest contestant we’ve ever had."

For more from our chat with Grodner, check back with EW.com on Friday.

Good news…….They used to have a token old person. Seasons 1 through 5 always had an older guy (Kent, etc) and then they stopped it so they could only feature Frat Boys + Girls Gone Wild…..I hope they have a more diverse cast, less boobies + pecs and more drama!!!

This should be interesting! It’s nice that they are casting some real people instead of twentysomething model/actor/bartender types.

  • spud

Have whatever age you want, as long as it doesn’t detract from the boobies.

  • big ole brother

dh and i didnt even watch the one that was on this past winter. it sucked so badly. i hope this one is better. good to see a more diverse cast

Why stop at 1 senior! I think you should have several over 50 players. Mix it up and see who’s in it to win it!

  • traceyg32

I think the show looks good. I myself would rather watch the younger people. I’m sure that is the majority of the viewers.

It should be interesting to see how the 75 yr. old Grandpa handles the 35 yr. old openly gay cowboy, since it appears gramps is a former marine. INSERT INSTANT DRAMA FIRESTARTER HERE. And the 22 yr old body builder is beyond handsome, and lets not forget they also got the “mixologist”, Memphis NOT to be confused with a bartender, according to his CBS.com profile…LOL

I’m sorry, one older person does not diversity make. Luckily, the British version has been interesting, and that’s what I’ll be watching via the internet. Is there anything worth watching on network tv any more?

Last season was so sleazy that I was hoping for a more upscale cast. On paper, they look more promising, but I’m already worried about the older man’s health/stamina and confused/disgusted by the cast member who is leaving twin infants to do the show. I can’t imagine anyone leaving an infant for any reason. Honestly, if there’s not a Dr. Will or Evel Dick, I’m done with Big Brother.

How do you watch big brother british version on the internet?? Tell me tell meeeee pls.

I wish they’d get participants who don’t smoke. Too many teens watch this show. My dad died from smoking when he was 47. Please, CBS! Don’t promote smoking by choosing cool-looking participants who are also addicted to tobacco. Please!

  • SUCK IT

GOOD GOD THE CAST THIS YEAR IS SAD AND NOTICEABLE, WONNA BE ACTORS. WONNA BE WHAM AMBER, EVEL DICK DAUGHTER, DR.WIL, GAY WILL, JEN, JANELLE. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE PUT CBS AND BB TO REST. I AM SO OVER IT. CHELSEA LATELY PLEASE MAKE MORE FOOLS OUT OF THESE WONNA BE MTV REALITY SHOW TO REST,

Well now that Patrick Bateman got the boot (sometimes Big Brother’s universe is righted) we look at the current group and what can we say. Jerry? His picture on the wall is already black and white (‘cos it was taken in 1942). He’s the John McCain of the show; the minute he’s in the running to win, he flip-flops on his convictions. He shouldn’t be in the house, he should be on the porch, yelling at Julie Chen to get off his lawn! And when I saw Memphis, I thought I had accidentally tuned in to “Swingtown” with his handlebar and muttonchops. I suspect he’s really Morgan Spurlock on another stunt–hey Morgan, it’s gonna be more than 30 Days! Angie continued the great tradition of Big Brother Broken English when she declared Brian the “funnest” person…I wish these people would crack another book beside the Bible! Well, Jesse obviously hasn’t gotten to the Good Book yet, what with not knowing about King Solomon….(cont)

Even Old King Sol would think his decision about a mother and her child is more sound than Libra’s…the placenta’s not even cold yet! Lynette, you must be so proud to see Dan the Republican…he said he wouldn’t be able to wave a flag during a time of war if liberals were in power…which is true–BECAUSE WE WOULDN’T BE IN A TIME OF WAR. Interesting how a patriot like him signed up for Big Brother and NOT Uncle Sam…so far, looks to be a boring bunch, no Sodom On A Soundstage this season. (And how much do you want to bet Angie was cast because having an mentally-handicapped brother would make up for Adam’s “retard” remark?) Speaking of mentally-challenged, New Orleans has blown the most lethal force of nature into that house since Katrina–Rennie!
She’s like Judge Judy after a few mint Juleps…and she don’t tiptoe thru those Juleps, I bet!
