Exclusive: Michael J. Fox Blazes Trail to 'Rescue Me'

Casting for Rescue Me’s upcoming fifth season is heating up! (Get it? Heating up? Show about firefighters? Ah, forget it.)

Anyway, sources confirm to me exclusively that Michael J. Fox is
nearing a deal to join the cast of Rescue Me for a multi-episode arc.
He’ll play a love interest for Denis Leary’s on-screen ex, Janet
(Andrea Roth). An FX spokesperson confirms that Fox is circling the role, but insists “no deal is done yet.”

This marks Fox’s first major TV gig since a 2006 guest stint on Boston
Legal
, where he played a CEO battling stage-four lung cancer.

Leary and Fox are longtime friends, so I’m going to assume negotiations
will proceed without a hitch and his hiring will become official any
minute now.

Fired up about Fox’s casting? (Get it?) Or is your excitement tempered by the
fact that new episodes (real episodes, not those webisodes) won’t
start airing for, like another nine years! OK, it’s next March, but still — it’s a long damn time.

this is pretty exciting. I like Michael J. Fox and his guest star stint on Boston Legal was really good.
So this excites me, although I hope he works in the context of the show.

This show is still on? Hmm. Who knew.

  • Raven_Moon

    That would be great!

I hate to ask the obvious question, but what are they going to do about the Parkinsons? Is the character going to have it too? It’s going to be fairly difficult to shoot around it (if it’s even possible).
Regardless, I’m stoked. I love Michael J. Fox, and I think he’d fit in perfectly with the Rescue Me cast. I can just imagine the verbal sparring between him and Denis Leary.

I’d be more excited if the show were remotely watchable anymore.

I love Fox. Great if he does guest appearances on the show. But the show was not good last season…hope it gets better. Also, I saw MJF on a recent interview and his Parkinson’s looks really advanced. I wish him all the best.

It would be great to see Michael Fox again, he always does a great job. As far as Michael Ausiello who wrote this are you two years old or go to corny school recently ?

Hi I can’t believe you coming to the show soon. I was suprise. I still have a hard time accepting with my dad who had a Parkinson’s Disease since he were young man. Im still his only daughter. Micheal Fox and Mahammad Ali are the most amazing fighter and are my favorite people with P.D.
Always ur friend, Yvette Michelle Calhoun

  • smart-a

Don’t worry Dragen there’s a Wednesday in every week. In fact they never left.

I wish him the best. His Parkinson’s seems very advanced. Sometimes it’s difficult to watch him struggling…but I’m happy he still wants to work. Good luck to him.

  • Dean

Michael J. Foxx’s disease is really advanced, but it sounds great that he is willing to get back to work.Good luck
