ABC’s Sports Night is being called out of retirement this fall… by NBC. Sort of. Read the full post.

“Sports Night was a great show: very well written and the cast was stellar. And yet it’s long gone and we are still stuck with Two and a Half Men.”
Some things just defy explanation, don’t they, MsDaisy? I seriously loved that show.

I adored Sports Night and recently finished rewatching it from Netflix, so this news makes me very, very happy. I haven’t watched SVU in a couple of years, but this will make me tune in again. (Also, thanks to the commenters for the news about the DVD release. I would love to own it on DVD, and I’ll have to go check that out!)

After the son is convicted, will she go back to her jerk-wad first husband? And will he end up in therapy and go out with a porn star? ‘Cause that’d be just eerie.

  • Liz

Anything that conjures Sports Night in my mind is a good thing. I NEVER watch SVU, but may just tune in to see this ep.
Whoever is actually watching Two and a Half Men and making it a top 20 show — STOP! You are ruining Tv for the rest of us who have taste and a decent sense of humor!
I’m off to put Sports Night in my Netflix queue.

Ah, Sports Night — the best show you never watched. I watch the entire series on DVD once a year. Loved it when Desperate Housewives had Felicity Huffman dance to the same song she danced to on SN. A cunning nod to an amazing show.

Haven’t watched much Sports Night, but Charles was brilliant in the first season of In Treatment. So brilliant, in fact, I’m tempted to watch this episode despite having nothing but contempt for SVU…

FYI – The new Sports Night DVD set is going to have commentaries with the cast and crew, a number of new featurettes, gag reels and more. Its from the same company that did the Freaks and Geeks and My So-Called Life sets so it should be good. I’m totally rebuying the series when it comes out.

Anything with Josh Charles is inherently good, even if it is only an episode SVU. God, I miss Sports Night. What a cast.

  • Alex

Great news!! But disturbing that not everyone is inherently an SVU fan…. This show is unmissable regardless of the great guest cast.

  • Annie

OMG THIS IS THE BEST SCOOP EVER!! “u swear the hideous cheese remark was because of me??” I love Sports Night and SVU!

  • Matt

Sports Night – the greatest non-sitcom in history. It’s too bad that it was doomed by the one-two punch of ABC not knowing how to schedule it effectively, and the general population being too dumb to get its brilliance and humor. Oh, nostalgia. Thanks Mike.

  • Dee

There may not be a huge amount of Sports Night fans out there, but there’s a reason Aaron Sorkin calls it his best show ever. I am over the moon about this casting scoop! Now when can we see Felicity Huffman and Peter Krause as an on-screen couple? On anything!

    @Martha
Jeremy (not Dan) dated Jenny the porn star.
