Kate Walsh has a big job ahead for fall; she has to help relaunch Private Practice, the much-ballyhooed spinoff of Grey’s Anatomy about a beach-based group of randy doctors. But even though her character, Dr. Addison Montgomery, is starting to settle in at the Oceanside Wellness Center (David Sutcliffe guest stars as her boytoy! She asserts herself more around the offices!) she may take another trip back to Seattle Grace sometime in the middle of the season, hints executive producer Shonda Rhimes. “I don’t know if it’s going to work with the story, and we don’t want her to come back for a visit if it doesn’t feel important, something only Addison can do,” says Rhimes. “But the idea is on the table.” This wouldn’t be the first homecoming for Walsh’s Addison; the comely redhead showed up in a Grey’s episode over the spring while Practice was on hiatus.

If I was Kate Walsh I would be pissed about having to return to Greys every season. Greys may need Addison for “something only Addison can do”, but Addison/PrP doesn’t need the interruption. Shondra should concentrate on establishing PrP rather than mucking about with the timelines & continuity.
I watched Addie’s one Greys episode in Season 4, & that was a wasted opportunity for Addie fans. Merely a Greys ratings stunt, & a way to prop up Greys characters by shaking them up. Did nothing for Addie or PrP.
Shonda is so f-king stupid. Kate has worked her butt off doing PrP promotion and praising the show, Shonda, cast, and writers. Now Shonda goes and says this. Stupid. I feel bad for Kate, Shonda just uses her.
If it wasnt for my love of Kate (and Addison) I would be done with all things Shondaland.
I love Addison on GA, but I love her more on PP. It does nothing for the Addison character bringing her on to GA for an episode. I would be really mad if I was Kate Walsh.
WHY??!!! I HATE ADDISON!
WTF ratings went DOWN last time why do this again? Keep her on Private Practice!
She has her show now. I’m tired to see her on Greys again.
So true Anna. So true. Ratings were really bad. Greys have had good ratings in the finale thanks to MerDer reunion. I’m tired to see the returns of old characters like Danny, Ava, Addison… They are over Greys
Greys obviously needs all the help it can get to revive the show if they want Addie back again. Her last visit did not benefit Private Practice only Greys.
But for the sake of Private Practice & it’s talented cast, I hope Addie stays in LA. Callie, Mark or Richard should visit her in LA if need be.
Don’t waste Addie on Greys crap Shonda. Show her some respect. She’s moved onto brighter & better things. And I can’t wait to see Addie & HotCop.
Sam – Greys ratings were down all season. Without Addie’s appearance mid-season that episode would have seen a further dip. People tuned in after the hiatus for the first ep back & didn’t like what they saw. Greys is sinking faster than quick sand. Shonda is obviously trying everything to shore up reserves!
No wonder Desperate Housewives is back to No1 ABC show.
I am so sick of the rude childish Mer/Der fans and I am a Mer/Der fan. All you children do is bash. Grow Up.
WHAT? I don’t wanna watch Grey’s again. I am done with Grey’s. Leave Addison alone Shonda!
Mer/Der cannot save Greys. More likely to tune viewers out. Talk about flogging a dead couple. I only watched the finale to see the “surprise kiss” – Callie/Hahn & Izzie/Alex. As did my friends. It did nothing to entice me to watch Season 5.
Addie was certainly one of the best Greys characters – along with Christina & Bailey. She should stay on her own show which has real potential. Why go back to prop up a sinking ship when you have a HotCop in your bed lol.
Kate Walsh is far too good for both Greys & Private Practice.
I hope in the future someone casts her in a show to showcase her talents. She is a very gifted comedienne who can also balance the high drama.
Until then, Private Practice has more mileage than Greys, & with a smaller talented cast of pros.
I don’t want to see her again on Grey’s! She’s gone.
