Exclusive: 'Desperate Housewives' Welcomes Gail O'Grady!

Gailogrady_lThere’s a cougar loose on Wisteria Lane! And not the Kim Bauer kind! The Kim Cattrall kind!

Sources confirm to me exclusively that the sublime Gail O’Grady (American Dreams, NYPD Blue) is joining the cast of Desperate Housewives as the cul-de-sac’s newest troublemaker.

As I teased in this week’s episode of Ausiello TV, her character — which will appear on a recurring basis — was originally conceived as a Mrs. Robinson-esque seductress who sets her sights on one of Lynette’s rapidly aged twin terrors. I say originally because it’s entirely possible some of those plans have changed.

One thing I know for sure:  O’Grady’s alter ego will be married. Producers are currently casting the role of her hubby.

Anyone know what Tom Verica’s up to?

Awesome! On the DVD of “Matlock” season one, Matlock had to prove that she and her sister killed their aunt (That’s not a spoiler, they show O’Grady kill her). She was stunningly gorgeous then as well, and wowed me with how well she played downright psychopathic. She will also be in the pilot of “The Mentalist”

Tom Verica, yes!! Or maybe even John Wesley Shipp?

  • Knotmitty

Gail O’Grady is an excellent actress and should one more outstanding talent to the series.

  • Mike

Tom Verica!? Yes! I’ve had the hots for him since he was on Central Park West (hottest one on the show in my opinion).

  • mike

Tom Verica has become a very accomplished Tv Director directing eps of some of the hottest shows including “grey’s”
Michael, do you know if her pilot with ABC is still in contention? Because even if it goes it probably won’t air before March. Steve McPherson said there will be more pickups from their development slate and her show (untitled David Hemingson show, recently titled “the Deep end”) had some good buzz

How may I become Gail’s husband? Do I need to move to LA or New York to try out for the part?

  • Leo

THIS IS THE BEST NEWS EVER!!!!!!!!

  • Lucy

This is an amazing addition! Gail is a fantastic actress. I can’t wait for the new season to “meet” her character.

    I just pooped my pants!

  • Not a Housewives fan

I just had to comment that some of my favorite NYPD Blue episodes were the ones where Donna Abandando’s sister, Dana Abandando comes to visit — and tries to steal Donna’s man, Detective Gregory Medavoy. The redheaded actress hiding under a huge teased ‘do and a thick Noo Yawk accent was a young unknown named Debra Messing. I’m looking forward to “The Mentalist”, even if it sounds a lot like “Monk” & “Psych”, but without the OCD (Monk) and the ADHD (Shawn).

  • Ugh!

I am so over this dang show when it comes to casting. You throw an excellent actress such as Alfre Woodard a craptastical story line and never again do we see a shade of color on this show. How about Jackee Harry or Robin Givens. Give this show a spark of color, I don’t even care if someone black knocks on the door because they ended up on the “right” side of town by mistake, Mr. Cherry.

I liked Nicolette Sheridan. Since she left, I do not watch. They really don’t need another trouble maker, Susan, Bree and Lynette do an overbearing job.

  • Heather

Can we please drop the cougar term? It’s so horribly demeaning and not funny at all.

This show wasn’t white enough, of course! You’d think that somebody darker than a paper bag would pop up after Dana Delany joined the cast. Carlos and Gabby’s Latin flavor is where that begins and ends.
