Katy Perry may have covered “Like A Virgin” at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards, but Jordin Sparks was living it — loudly. Read the full post.

so now I’m not ‘necessarily’ a slut? man, I’m relieved. I was really upset since she said that. There’s still hope for me! I do hope she continues to further delineate what constitutes a slut so I can find peace of mind.

I think that people are ok with Jordin Sparks discussing her views on sex. However, labeling a whole group of people as “sluts” is what they are taking issue with. Slut is such a deragotry word and encompasses much more than just sexual behavior–and having sex that is responsible and caring can be done prior to marriage so her choice of words is what touched off the discussion. Had she said “Why are you making fun of people who are making a personal choice just because you didn’t” would have shut down the controvsery right away b/c then she’d turn the argument on its head. She’s a young woman who doesn’t have the saavy and I appreciate that, but putting people into categories as whores or madonnas just furthers the notion that sex is about your moral character instead of an expression of yourself as a sexual being.

Hey MoKa: if the world can’t take issue with who the leader of our country is then we can’t be angry when they don’t engage in a war with us, that wait, did we take down the leader of another country whose policies we disagreed with? I just want to be sure that the Leader of the Free World, can only be mocked by um, The Free World?

  • GoddessLu

I don’t think the vast majority who took umbrage to Sparks’ off the cuff remark mock that she wants to remain a virgin until marriage–that’s fine & dandy. The offensive part is how she (and many other like-minded folks) choose to pass judgment on those who do not. Isn’t the idea that [your]God is supposed to be the final judge? Judge not, lest ye be judged (OK, probably mangled that but you get the idea). Do or don’t do whatever your want, but don’t condemn others. Clean your own house first.

I am a slut. To Jorin: Well at least I’m not fat.

  • To Godess Lu

I want to do Brad Pitt!!!

Oh and Moka: our government owes the Iraqi refugees who are without safety, homes, and livelihood, the Kurds and the families of the soldiers from any country who died in the war started by the leader who apparently can not be criticized by anyone an apology. A long one.

April, I have an engament ring not a promise ring. Am I a slut?

Calling George Bush a retard is kind. He should be called a murderer. I thank god we have no draft right now and my son is in college instead of in a country where we don’t belong.

According to Jordin, I am a slut, and I still applaud her for what she said! It was very tacky for Brand to repeatedly say what he did to the Jonas Bros., and kudos to Jordin for saying something in opposition. If some kids want to try to wait, more power to them. And if some kids want to start safely experimenting before marriage, good for them too. The important thing is Jordin was the only voice for the “non-slutty” side, and I like that she represented that differing view, especially since we don’t usually hear that viewpoint from most celebrities.

Besides the fact the Jordin called me a slut, I also think it’s disgusting to tell people they need to live the traditional life to be considered a good person. Marriage should be banned. Don’t have sex until your old enough for the consequences – yes, but for crying out loud – but don’t wait till marriage in fact – don’t get married!

  • Jess

oh and p.s. Jordin probably doesn’t have to worry or wear that dumb ring -I doubt anyone wants to have sex with her anyway.

  • Linda Drake

I think Jordin just lashed out in a moment of feeling outrage over the repeated comments on that show. Her wording wasn’t the best but, don’t you think the young people to are trying to live a pledge to purity were the ones being judged and ridiculed? Is it really so surprising that Jordin responded? Or should she passively take the ridicule?
One more thing. If you can drag Bush bashing into this discussion, you are really obsessed. Strange and sad.

MandyK hit the nail on the head when she said “Brand was not suggesting that the Jonas Bros. have a single, meaningful, relationship that is sexual. Brand was making fun of the JoBro for not taking advantage of all the girls that are throwing themselves at them all day, everyday.”
The “slut” remark makes total sense in this context; The Jonas Brothers WOULD be sluts if they banged every stupid groupie they met. I doubt Jordin thinks EVERY unmarried sexually-active person is a slut; it’s just nit-picking from people even more defensive than she is.

David Letterman wrote this; it’s the David we don’t often see.. “As most of you know I am not a President Bush fan, nor have I ever been, but this is not about Bush, it is about us, as Americans, and it seems to hit the mark. The other day I was reading Newsweek magazine and came across some Poll data I found rather hard to believe. It must be true given the source, right? The Newsweek poll alleges that 67 percent of Americans are unhappy with the direction the country is headed and 69 percent of
the country is unhappy with the performance of the President. In essence 2/3 of the citizenry just ain’t happy and want a change. So being the knuckle dragger I am, I started thinking, ‘What are we so unhappy about?’ A.. Is it that we have electricity and running water 24 hours a day, 7 Days a week? B.. Is our unhappiness the result of having air condition in the summer & heat in the winter? C..that 95.4 are unhappy cause we have a job? D..cause we can walk into a grocery store
