Casting Scoops: 'SNL,' 'Grey's,' 'Housewives,' 'Damages,' 'Old Christine,' and More!

Latifahmullally_l
It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s a super-size edition of Casting Scoops featuring exclusive intel on Saturday Night Live, Grey’s Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, Damages, and more!

•    Saturday Night Live: On the off chance this weekend’s SNL features a spoof of tonight’s vice presidential slugfest, I can tell you who will be playing PBS moderator Gwen Ifill: Queen Latifah. A well-placed source confirms to me exclusively that SNL has gone ahead and secured Latifah’s services for Saturday’s show. The insider cautions, however, that the debate sketch isn’t 100 percent locked — and a final decision might not come down until Saturday. There’s also no official word as to whether Tina Fey would be back as Palin, but this much I know for sure: If she loved me, she’d do it.

•    The New Adventures of Old Christine: Talk about a stretch: Megan Mullally is playing a homophobe! This November, the Emmy-winning Will & Grace laugh riot will guest star on Old Christine as the head of the family values-based organization that owns Christine’s gym. Her character threatens to shut down the fitness center when she learns of Christine and Barb’s marriage.

•    Desperate Housewives: Fat Actress‘ Rachael Harris will appear in a November episode of Housewives as a reporter doing a profile on nationally renowned domestic goddess Bree Van De Kamp (Marcia Cross).

•    Grey’s Anatomy: I’m happy to report that negotiations between Grey’s and Alias alum Melissa George have produced a signed contract. It remains unclear when exactly George’s bisexual intern will first show up at Seattle Grace, but if I know Shonda Rhimes, it’ll be the precise moment Erica and Callie find true happiness.

•    Damages: An Emmy can do wonders for one’s career, but can it also raise the dead? Apparently so! Fresh off his Supporting Actor win as Damages‘ Ray Fiske, who shot and killed himself in last season’s penultimate episode, Zeljko Ivanek has inked a deal to make what my source calls "several appearances" in season 2. Hope Patty Hewes isn’t afraid of ghosts!

He was spooky as hell when he was alive, I can’t imagine Zeljko as a ghost.

  • Rani

Why not a surprise performance as Palin by Mullaly? Maybe every other week have surprise celebrity guests doing a Palin imitation? LOL.

  • Dave B

I’m really excited about Mullally on Old Christine. I think she will be really great. Hopefully CBS doesn’t cancel the show before Mullally shoots the episode!
As for Damages, I hope they don’t start having these supernatural things going on. It is to much of a sophisticated show to get caught up in that type of stuff. I am happy to see Zeljko back… he deserved his Emmy most of anyone in that category this year.

  • CandyMaize

I’ve already been “dying” waiting for season 2 of ‘Damages’ and now Zeljko Ivanek is going to be back too? WooHoo! I’m sure they’ll find a great way of bringing back his character (flashback, dream/nightmare, a PTSD hallucination ….).

  • George

Well the way Damages played with timelines in season 1, it’s quite possible he’ll be seen in flashbacks rather than as a ghost.

  • Chris

I have a serious girl crush on Melissa George, I loved her in In Treatment, so I’m so excited to see her on GA.

  • Nancy

GREAT to hear that Megan Mullally will be back. I don’t watch CBS, but I will when she is on. She’ll be a HOOT with those cast members!
I miss her in WILL & GRACE so much.
    And also, JUST JACK!! :(
EMMY’s screwed up again by not picking HUGH LAURIE to win. WHAT is their problem??????????????????????

  • Aaron

I actually watched the Damages crew shoot a scene between Glenn Close and Zeljko Ivanek a few months ago in Stuyvesant Square Park in NYC and have been wondering since then what type of involvement he’ll have. I’m sure they’re all flashbacks or something.

  • Nikki

The Damages news makes me so happy! Love Zeljko Ivanek and cheered when he won his much-deserved Emmy!! Now if only more people start watching the show…

  • MJ

God friggin… WHY SHONDA, WHY?! Why does she have to screw up the PERFECT couple?! With an INTERN?!

  • Kristine

Melissa George *gag* Calling her an Alias alum is an insult to a show that had a few amazing seasons and then a fast decline. I would call Melissa George ‘the straw that broke the camel’s back,’ not an alum.

Why does Shonda Rhimes insiste on pouring guest reccuring stars on Grey’s? Is the flipping cast of 12 not ENOUGH? Would this lady not rest until there’s 2 dozen cast members?
If you speak to her tell her to STOP. It’s ruining the show not adding to it

  • graeme

CBS won’t cancel Old Christine. I wouldn’t be surprised if they stick it back on Monday nights.
They know other networks still want Christine.

I have been all over the web, from YouTube to Hulu to NBC.com, and cannot find the video of the Oct 4 “Bailout” skit. It is advertised on the NBC site, but when you click, it says “Video is no longer available”. Can you find out what happened?

  • Pam

Duh….my previous comment was concerning the Saturday Night Live show on Oct 4
