It's Official: Rosie's Headed to NBC Prime Time!

Rosie_l_3

NBC is cooking up one juicy Thanksgiving appetizer for viewers this year: Rosie O’Donnell!

Nearly two months to the day since I brought you news of the Peacock-Ro
talks, the polarizing funny lady has inked a deal with NBC to headline
an hour-long variety show/backdoor pilot to air live in prime time on
Thanksgiving eve, Nov. 26.

Appropriately titled Rosie’s Variety Hour, the special will kick off
with an incendiary topical monologue and feature celebrity guests, musical acts, comedy skits, and a
“giant” giveaway for both the in-studio and home audiences.

“This is a dream come true for any performer,” O’Donnell said in a
statement. “Old time variety, live from New York with a nod to Ed
Sullivan, Carol Burnett and memories of Sonny and Cher.”

For now, Rosie’s Variety Hour is just a one-off special. But if this thing’s a hit — and, c’mon, how could it not be — you can bet it’ll become a regular fixture on NBC’s schedule.

Reaction? Looking forward to
seeing Rosie back in her element? Was NBC smart to test the waters with a special as
opposed to, say, a 13-episode commitment? Wondering whether Ro will ply her prime-time audience with same complimentary Ho Hos and Hi-C she did her daytime? Sound off below!

I can’t wait…I love political Rosie, but I really also adored sweet Rosie from her own show!

  • kate

I’m loving this, I thought she was great on the view and so I’m looking forward to this. I spent many a years watching her daytime show, this more political version is only an improvement….

I’d rather watch a Dancing With The Stars marathon naked in a senior citizens home.
I hope it carries the lowest rating in the network’s history. Rosie is factually a pinhead to the nth degree.

    hey
I do not agree with what you said really….
please explain in detail a bit more for me ;D
    thank you

Welcome back, Rosie, I hope that you stay for a long time. I can’t wait to see the special.

yeah, i’m totally for this. i’m happy to have rosie back on tv, and i think this sort of this is a perfect place for her. while i love her political side, i think we need to be honest here: people hate rosie when she’s being political. something like this can get people to remember why they originally called her the queen of nice.

  • Carrie

YEAH ROSIE! I’VE MISSED HER. I DEFINITELY WILL BE WATCHING!

  • wes

Love it. This is what’s missing from TV.

  • donner

sounds like fun…she’s welcome to be political on her blog where people can go and debate with her there, but if she keeps her show light and fun-hearted, I think it’ll be a blast…yippee…

  • Bethany

“How could it now be?”? I’ll tell you how. It’s ROSIE. Do we really want to sit around watching her blather on for an hour right before Thanksgiving.
…Though maybe she’s an improvement for some people’s Thanksgiving… Oh, I feel sorry for those people…

It’s a happy day. Rocking Rosie’s back! And to top it off, Elizabitch may be retreating to the delusional Fox world (where she rightfully belongs). I know Rosie’s show will be uplifting and fun!

I think Variety show plus Rosie equals a perfect marrage! I’m thrilled to see ol’ fashioned variety shows getting another chance since the horrid masacur envoked by Jessica and Nick (lest we remember that tragedy)! It’s also a great Idea to pay hommage to the greats in the industry of 60′s/70′s variety hour shows ie Ed, Carol, Sonny and Cher. Being that both Cher and Carol Burnet are still working along with a lot of other greats from the variety show era, I hope to see them make an appearance somewhere down the road if and when this show popularizes. I see it getting big nods! Good Luck Ro!

Since you asked…this past year was nice without listening to Rosie’s mouth. I’m sorry I just can’t stand her. She’s just not funny anymore. She’s rude and abnoxious.

  • heather

Anythings better than another reality show. I liked her when she had her own show, but after a couple of seasons the novelty wore off. I hope it works out for her. It’s been years since we’ve had a variety show.

  • Mary Luciana

I like Rosie and now all are seeing Elizabeth is the one who can’t get along with anyone who differs from her. Hey Rosie count me in if looking for audience members, I’ll bring you another stress ball but hopefully you won’t need it this time.
