David Archuleta signs with Azoff Management

Archuletaqa_l
David Archuleta has signed with Azoff Management, the career-launching (and often sustaining) music powerhouse that counts The Eagles, Christina Aguilera, Neil Diamond, and, most recently, Morrissey among its clients. But that doesn’t mean young Archie, last season’s American Idol runner-up, will forgo his dad’s guidance from here on out. The reportedly difficult Jeff Archuleta will co-manage his son’s music career along with Azoff’s Jared Paul, who steers the pop ship for artists like Nick Lachey and New Kids on the Block.

19 Entertainment gets first dibs on Idol finalists for management, but the company apparently passed on Archuleta, while signing winner David Cook (a 19 representative declined to comment). Still, Archuleta remains on the 19 Recordings roster, and the company is intimately involved in overseeing his first album, which is due out Nov. 11. David Cook’s debut will drop a week later.

Why is it that Archuleta’s album can come out before Cook’s? I thought there was a rule that the winner’s has to come out a certain amount of time before anyone elses?

Seriously? You’re still linking to that TMZ article? It’s TMZ. Get over it; a ton of people have debunked that stupid story. Frankly, I never thought it was a good idea to have management and recording under the same umbrella for the same artist. And 19 Management hasn’t done much for any runner-up in the past, so good on Archuleta for dodging that bullet.

to JP: clay’s album also came out a month before ruben’s so it’s not unusual. also, kristy lee cook already has an album out…so all is fair, i guess.
as for 19 passing on archie…their loss.

I think it’s great they didn’t sign with 19 Entertainment. 19 must have done something wrong with Cook’s first single, because it’s not selling nearly as well as expected. During American Idol, everyone kept repeating how David Archuleta would not be marketable and how David Cook would sell millions of records. Nonetheless, “Crush” is doing better than Cook’s single. As for Jeff Archuleta’s involvement, David is still a minor.

Congrats David. You are in good hands.

Wow. That must be a blow to David Archuleta that 19E passed on him and wanted Cook instead. I can see why though. Cook did win the title by millions of votes and his single is so much better. It is good though that David gets out from under his controlling stage Dad Jeff. Too bad, though, that Jeff is still a co-manager.

HALLELUJAH!!!! I think this is the best move for him… Azoff is a legend, is known for taking excellent care of his clients, takes no crap, and will make sure David gets the attention he deserves…. this dude is the MAN…..

Thank god David A got away from 19E. If Cook continues to stay with 19E and continue doing this half pop half rock stuff he’s gonna go down. Run before it happens!

  • Vanessa

    Congratulation David!

Apparently Clay took out a lawsuit to escape the hands of 19E. Archie did it so easily! He’s really too good for them.

Some of the artist that are with Azoff are:
Jewel, The Eagles, Bush, REO Speedwagon, Seal, Journey, Christina Aguilera, Alter Bridge, Van Halen, Neil Diamond, New Kids on the Block, Steely Dan and Guns N’ Roses. Also Smashing Pumpkins…

Co managers? That seems weird. I guess David’s controlling father still can’t let go. That’s bad that 19E “passed on” him and 19E “failed to comment”. Maybe 19E passed because of his awful father? Maybe they didn’t want to deal with him. Not a good start for David Archuleta.
