Exclusive: 'Brothers & Sisters' Finds Ryan!

Grimesbrotherssisters_l
Just about every under-30 actor in Hollywood wanted the part. I campaigned for Friday Night Lights‘ Scott Porter to get it. The Class grad Jason Ritter went in for it. But now, sources confirm to me exclusively that the season’s most coveted role — that of long-lost Walker bastard Ryan on Brothers & Sisters –- is about to go to (drum-roll, please) Luke Grimes!

(Crickets)

Who the heck is Luke Grimes? Well, he’s the 24-year-old up-and-coming star of films such as All the Boys Love Mandy Lane and Assassination of a High School President. Duh.

(Crickets)

Okay, so he’s not exactly a household name. Something tells me that’s all about to change. According to my B&S mole, the newb is so close to sealing a deal to play Ryan that all that’s left for him to do is dot the “i” on his contract.

So what do you think? When the newest Walker shows up later this season, will we be applauding the show’s daring casting of a total unknown? Or will we be lamenting the fact that once again the powers that be didn’t listen to me? I tried, Scott Porter. I tried.

    Thanks for the link, Mike!
‘All the Boys Love Mandy Lane,’ it should be noted, is excruciating (despite starring the super-dewy Amber Heard). Almost walked out of the screening I attended about a year ago (when it was originally supposed to come out, ahem).

The picture looks a little Johnny Deppe-ish, don’tcha think? Or am I crazy? Or both?

  • MIke

Actually, the character is Ryan Lafferty.

  • Jay

Why don’t they listen to you?! I’m disappointed by this. VERY disappointed.

  • kitkate

Could assy be any more full of himself? gag.

i’m underwhelmed. However, Greg Berlanti is known for finding new talent. I was just expecting a known quanitity instead of an unknown one.

I always support casting unknowns, but the fact that I even considered Scott Porter leaves me disapointed. This guy looks like the poor man’s version of Taylor Kitsch (maybe cuz FNL is on the brain), although his IMDB photo looks better.

  • Ned

    Eh, poor Jason Ritter.

Of course they pick an actor who looks oh-so-generic to every other white male actor in their twenties. Why not just cast someone from Gossip Girl or 90210?
I was hoping for Jason Dohring (one of the few young actors out there with talent and potential). Here’s to hoping he gets something worthwhile.

Long lost family member? Anyone else smell a shark nearby?

  • Snarf

I guess this means they’ve decided to change his charecter somewhat – looks more “quirky” than “all american” to me.

I agree his IMDB pictures are much more appealing than this one, which does absolutely nothing for me.
However, I think they would have been much better served with someone like Jason Ritter. Grimes better be a Class A talent, the discovery of the century, or Berlanti and Co. will have made a giant mistake. I think Ritter or Porter would have been good choices, but Ritter especially. And I don’t know about Berlanti’s skills at picking ‘unknowns.’ Maybe I’m too into TV, etc., but most of Everwood was already familiar to me.

He looks like he could be a Walker. However, Brothers and Sisters already has a huge cast. Another illegitimate sibling is not needed. I hope that Ryan Lafferty does not become a regular character. The Brothers and Sisters writers need to focus on the characters that they already have.

I have this inexplicable feeling of dread every time I hear Ryan’s name mentioned on the show. I can’t help but feel that the introduction will kill the show somehow. Wish they would wait til the end of the season to do it but like the de-Walkering of Rebecca, the creators seem hellbent on shoehorning in a story that feels out of place. Even Kevin being asked to be Robert’s communications director doesn’t feel as forced as the whole Ryan fiasco.
Seems like there’s enough story to go around with everyone that’s already on the canvas without introducing yet another brother to the mix. Sigh. It just makes me wonder: if the Ryan story doesn’t work out, will we find out that William Walker had yet another mistress and child? (seems like it’s the story the show wants to tell). But please God please let them NEVER tell a story of Nora’s real first child..before William… some child she’s never talked about… please please please!

I don’t like his look. I was hoping for Gregory Smith (everwood reunion, anyone?) or Jason Dohring both of whom we could rely on for a little angst and a little comedy, plus a few added viewers, since their fans are loyal followers of their work.
