Katie Holmes’ return to TV couldn’t save ABC’s Eli Stone from the expected decline in ratings after last week’s premiere, but it did cushion the blow. While most shows lose about 15 to 20 percent of viewers between their first and second episodes, Eli was down only 3 percent (8.5 million people tuned in to watch Holmes warble Duke Ellington yesterday versus last week’s 8.8 million). That said, things weren’t all good for the Eli: Of the 9.7 million viewers that put it on at the beginning of the hour, 2 million changed the channel (or just shut it off) by the end. Eli also held on to only 47 percent of the viewers from its lead-in, ABC’s Dancing With the Stars results show.
Dancing, on the other hand, faired much better. Its 8 p.m. recap episode bested last week’s Opportunity Knocks (which aired on ABC in the same time slot) by 4 million viewers to total out at 9.3 million. Then, after losing the 9 p.m. slot last week to CBS’ freshman wonder, The Mentalist, Dancing’s results show climbed back on top yesterday with 16 million viewers (an 11 percent gain from the previous episode’s 14.4 million).
Nevertheless, CBS once again stole Tuesday night. NCIS nabbed 17.1 million viewers (down slightly from last week’s 17.9 million), making it the evening’s top-rated series. The Mentalist showed steady gains at 15.3 million (compared to last week’s 14.9 million), and Without a Trace
also improved, averaging 11.6 million viewers (up from 11 million).
Overall, the Eye ended the evening in the No. 1 spot with an average
14.6 million viewers.
Over at Fox, House (12.9 million) added a few watchers to last week’s 12.8 million, while Fringe showed a slight decline (snagging 9.1 million viewers versus the previous episode’s 9.5 million). At NBC, 8 p.m.’s The Biggest Loser: Families (7.3 mllion) and 10 p.m.’s Law and Order: SVU (9.4 million) garnered nearly the same viewership numbers as last week. Finally, The CW’s 9 p.m. Privileged
(1.5 million) showed expected gains over last week’s rerun (1.2
million), while declining 35 percent from its previous new episode
(2.3 million). Also on The CW, 9 p.m.’s 90210
rerun (1.3 million) scored nearly 30 percent below the previous week’s
repeat (1.8 million). Thankfully, new episodes begin again next week.

Katie Holmes on Eli Stone

Do Katie Holmes fans actually exist?
That’s too bad about Eli losing audience during the show, the last ten to fifteen minutes were great. And Katie Holmes actually had me welling up when she told Eli he gave her her magical airport moment.
You mean 90210′s rerun in the 8 p.m. slot, not 9 p.m. Aubry. Thats when Privileged airs.
Katie Holmes was supposed to be a draw?
Really no surprise with Eli Stone. Terrible show.
What are the 18-49 numbers for The Mentalist?
I love Eli Stone, but was terribly disappointed by their choice to include Katie Holmes in the show. When I see her, all I see is a giant Tom Cruise cut-out, and it happened throuhgout the show. They’ve got such great potential with that show, and there are so many real stars who can sing and dance. She was pathetic and took away from the show. This also was the first time that the “visions” didn’t make a real link between Eli and the people with whom he was trying to help. It was a lame attempt by ABC to get some TomKat crap on their network, and they should be ashamed.
Katie in my opinion didn’t bring much to Eli. I think any other actress could have done the same job as her. In addition, I didn’t think she looked very good in the opening dance. It was a bit odd. then to see her in a tom boy outfit with short hair was fairly awful too. I’ve never much been a fan of katie holmes. I think she tries to take parts that are older than she looks.(Batman, Thank you for smoking). I mean could you see her as a desperate housewife? (on ABC). She’s in that middlin’ area for actors. Not young enough, but not old enough either. She is also not a top billing actress just yet. Not to say she might some day, but just not right now.
I thought Katie was great! She has an innocence to her and I was really hoping she would stay. I hope they bring her back
I can’t believe the producers of Eli Stone actually built up Katie Holmes as some kind of draw. What was really galling is that the promos causally mentioned Sigourney Weaver’s network premiere (and she’s a 3-time Oscar nominee!), while they built up Katie Holmes. What exactly has she done to merit this sudden worship? Do people actually care about her?
well Katie is the higest hot ticket on Broadway right now. To be honest I didnt even know it was on last night.
I thought its for Nov.
My bad I thought her singing gig was it so after that I moved on to the news about the election.
Without Katie I didnt know this show existed. The greatest thing about the show would be Miller and Garber and why wasnt Katie Holmes cast in the first class because this girl is oozing with beauty and real talent.
Sorry ABC without Katie Im not really that interest in sticking around.
Katie was amazing and her chemistry with Johnny Miller was so touching. But if a series is losing gas there’s nothing you can do about it despite the creative efforts and guest stunts.
Hollywood needs to hire more of Katie on TV and the bigscreen than talentless Jessica Alba,Anne Hathaway,Jennifer Aniston, overrated Jolie,Drew Barrymore,Cameron Diaz and the list goes on and on with annoying no talent stars.
I heard she’s phenomenal on this show. I thought this show was axed already. Any links where I can watch the entire episode of Holmes?
I think this show is not appealing because of its it faith and religious overtones but more shows like this should be on TV.
