Exclusive: A&E Renews 'The Cleaner'

Thecleaner_l_2Addicted to A&E’s The Cleaner? Your next fix is coming. The cable net has renewed the freshman drama for a 13-episode second season, sources confirm to me exclusively.

The series, which stars Benjamin Bratt as an extreme interventionist who goes around helping folks kick their addictions, averaged a weekly audience of 4.2 million viewers (based on a three telecast cume).

The Cleaner has struck a chord with A&E viewers,” declared A&E prez Bob DeBitetto. “It is exactly the sort of high quality, engaging programming that our fans have come to expect.”

Any Cleaner junkies out there? C’mon, admitting it is the first step…

My name is Valeria, and I’m a Cleaner-holic. So glad it’s been renewed!

I admit it…I’m a Cleaner junkie. I don’t know what it is but I love watching people with problems (even if it is fake). and I know the pilot was one big disaster and even A&E realized it since they not once replayed the pilot after the second episode debuted. But the show got better from there on out

i agree – pilot episode was bad, but every episode after that has been great. the connection with the family and the cleaner gang is simply addictive to watch.

I have really enjoyed watching this show. I think Benjamin Bratt is giving an excellent performance, as is the rest of the cast. I am so glad to hear this news!!

I was always wondering why they never replayed the pilot! I missed it the first time around and then tried to catch it in a marathon and it was never there! sounds like i didn’t miss anything and i was probably better off not seeing it because i’ve seen every episode since and have enjoyed them.

If you have on demand with AE, you can catch the pilot. I liked the pilot. And I loved the whole show.

I am so excited to hear this! I LOVE this show!

Emily, the pilot was re-aired last night; hope you caught it. I’m so glad this show has been renewed, I’ve missed Bratt since he left L&O. Can’t wait to watch this show and “The Beast” with Patrick Swayze on ’09.

So glad this show has been renewed! One of the best on tv, and Benjamin Bratt is one of my favorite actors. (No, I’m not a teeney-bopper…. actually a 60+ lady who knows good tv)

Not a bad show. I’ll stick around for season 2.

The Cleaner is one of the better scripted series on the air. Benjamin Bratt is so SEXY!!

  • Sanari-

I caught the first few minutes of this show on A&E last night and have a question. They were dubbing out the profanity during the broadcast. I just assumed that it’s produced/broadcast on another network. But since it is actually an A&E series, does anyone know why they would edit out the swearing?

The Cleaner is such a strong show. Character is what it is all about, and that is missing on most shows. Keep Benjamin Bratt busy and do not bring a gay relationship to the mix, Greys Anatomy has lost my interest with that mess. Stick to helping those that need and want help to get clean. Maybe some more children being affected might help those watching that maybe do not see themselves in this situation with addiction. Having an ex- husband with an addiction problem, and having divorced him and moved on to a better human being, I would have liked this show on twenty five years ago so that he could have seen how addiction affects others immensely, not just the person addicted. Thank you for renewing the show.
