Ratings: NBC's 'Lipstick' wears off in new time slot

In its new time slot (Friday at 10 p.m., previously occupied by Life), NBC’s Lipstick Jungle reached only 3.2 million viewers–a 25 percent decrease in audience since its last new episode on Wednesday, Oct. 22. The struggling drama could fare better this week, when the nationwide runway show that is Halloween won’t conflict with the one proferred by Brooke Shields (pictured with Andrew McCarthy and Kim Raver) and Co. Meanwhile, NBC’s new series Crusoe continued to lose its audience–it averaged 4.2 million viewers, down 33 percent from last week and down 42 percent from its Oct. 20 premiere. CBS was Friday night’s winner, pulling in strong numbers from Ghost Whisperer (9.4 million viewers), a rerun of NCIS (the night’s most-watched program, with 11.2 million), and Numb3rs (10.6 million, up 14 percent from last week). On Sunday, football coverage made NBC the most-watched network of the night, followed (just barely) by ABC, then CBS. ABC’s Desperate Housewives continued its Sunday night reign, pulling in 15.8 million viewers to make it the best-viewed hour of the night. Viewership was down slightly for Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and Brothers & Sisters on ABC and Cold Case and The Unit on CBS, while The Amazing Race saw a slight gain. CBS’ 60 Minutes (14.4 million viewers) saw a notable bump, drawing in 11 percent more current events-minded households than last week.

They barely announced that Lipstick Jungle was moving to Friday. It doesn’t surprise me the ratings went down. If I hadn’t had my tivo set, I wouldn’t have seen it.

i’m surprised it made it to season 2

I only watch it to see Robert Buckley with his shirt off. yum!!!!!

I really hope Lipstick Jungle stays. I had started to watch Cashmere Mafia (a similar show), and they dropped that and kept Lipstick. I continued to watch Lipstick. Say it ain’t so. I really hope it continues.
On another note, no wonder Cold Case dropped in viewship. Non-football fans have to sit around and wait, and the show never seems to start on time. What happens is people switch every hour on the hour, so if Cold Case does not come on by 8pm or 9pm, people move on to see what else is on. By the time Cold Case comes on at 8.15 or 9.15, fans of the show have already started watching something else. Something needs to be done about that. I’ve always found Sunday night a problem watching Cold Case, which is one of my most favorite shows.

Count me in as another that had no idea that Lipstick Jungle had moved. I was out celebrating my BDay on Friday night…now I hear that the show was on? C’Mon NBC, give it a chance!

Well, I was home Friday night with not much to do, and I was glad Lipstick Jungle was on — I had avoided catching it before, and was suprised I enjoyed enough to watch again.

I watched 3 episodes last year and it was a horrible show just like that Cashmere Mafia show, another poor knock off of Sex and the city.
The writing was on the wall when they moved it. Say goodbye.

I had no idea they had moved this show to Fridays. I love it and was surprised and disappointed that I had missed this last episode. Why fridays though?? bad night for a good show.

NBC didn’t advertise the move and I only caught it because my DVR was set to record all new episodes. I’m not sure how much longer it will last. Friday nights are the kiss of death for TV shows.

I am another Lipstick Jungle fan who didn’t know that they had moved the show from Wednesday to Friday. Luckily, NBC.com has the full episode from Friday available online for free. It was actually a good episode to boot!!! Don’t forget to change your DVR settings to record it!

I thought I dvr’d Life and imagine my surprise when Lipstick Jungle was playing. Needless to say, I deleted it. Glad to see Life hasnt been cancelled though, but it doesnt help a show build an audience when you’ve changed nights twice within the first half of the season!

My only interest in this is that moving Life from a Friday night “death” timeslot to a slot on Wednesday seems like a show of confidence that it can find an audience. I like Life.

The show is a parody of cougarism for all the disatisfied women who believe their relationships are stale and in fact they themselves have made them stale. Dump the show like they did CM another horrible show thankfully gotten rid of.

  • Roger

Life euals quality TV, LJ equals a farce.

  • mary32
