'SNL Presidential Bash' earns viewer votes

Snlratings_l
Monday nights on NBC have been a disappointment in terms of recent ratings, but last night’s SNL Presidential Bash gave the Peacock something to celebrate, according to preliminary overnight ratings. The special averaged 14.4 million viewers during the 9-11 p.m. slot and helped the network dominate the evening in the pivotal 18-49 demographic. It was a vast improvement over last week’s airings of Heroes (8.2 million) and My Own Worst Enemy (5.3 million). At 8 p.m., NBC aired an episode of Deal or No Deal to the tune of 7.1 million viewers, a 9 percent improvement over last week’s episode of Chuck (6.5 million).

Despite SNL‘s numbers for NBC, it was ABC that won the night in total viewers, thanks to the 17.4 million viewers of Dancing with the Stars. Stars did, however, dip about 7 percent from last week’s airing. At 9:30  p.m., Samantha Who? (9.7 million) clearly felt the sting of the SNL special by losing about 1.7 million viewers from last week. Boston Legal also took a hit, with last night’s episode averaging just 7.2 million, down from last week’s 9.1 million.

CBS’ Monday night comedy line-up remained solid with Big Bang Theory (9.9 million), How I Met Your Mother (9.6 million), and Two and a Half Men (14.3 million) all holding strong, with only Worst Week (8.4 million) having difficulty; last week’s airing of a Gary Unmarried repeat in the 9:30 p.m. time slot actually earned 200,000 more viewers than this week’s new Week. At 10 p.m., CSI: Miami held steady at 12.7 million.

After last week’s ratings boost with the airing of the World Series, Fox settled back into its rather disappointing line-up of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Prison Break, which both averaged 5.2 million viewers.

Over at The CW, Gossip Girl improved on last week’s ratings by about 200,000 with 3.2 million viewers, while One Tree Hill actually dipped 200,000 with a rating of 3 million.
