Exclusive: 'Pushing Daisies' creator Bryan Fuller says he might return to 'Heroes'

In the wake of coexecutive producers Jeph Loeb and Jesse Alexander getting fired from Heroes, online fans have been crying out for former Heroes writer (and Pushing Daisies creator) Bryan Fuller to rejoin the show. Apparently, somebody is listening. Fuller told EW.com that he’s open to a comeback. “I am exclusive to Daisies through the delivery of the 13th episode of our 13-episode order, which will be mid-January,” says Fuller. “If Daisies isn’t picked up by then, I will definitely be going back to play with my friends at Heroes.”

It seems unlikely that ABC will pick up more episodes of the critically-beloved Daisies; the show is currently ranked at No. 64 and attracts a mere 6.14 million viewers. NBC-Universal could score major points with its ever-impatient fans if the network rehired Fuller, who not only wrote for Heroes in its first season but was responsible for “Company Man” — an episode widely hailed as the series’ best single hour (the episode’s unusual single-character focus is frequently cited as the model the series should follow going forward).

An insider tells EW that it’s unlikely Alexander and Loeb — who, by
many accounts, have served as defacto show runners whenever creator Tim
Kring was preoccupied with other aspects of the show’s complicated
production schedule — will be replaced this season. If Fuller were to
rejoin Heroes, it would likely be as a consultant since his value as a show creator is big in Hollywood. Besides Daisies, Fuller is responsible for creating Dead Like Me for Showtime and the critically-beloved Wonderfalls for Fox. Stay tuned. (Michael Ausiello contributed to this report)

It would be great having Fuller working on “Heroes,” again, but I’m sad about “Pushing Daises.” I love both.

If PD is canceled by ABC there is nothing anyone can do about it. I look forward to season 4 with Byran Yay!!! Maybe even the second half of vol 4

“Heroes” is beyond saving. “Pushing Daisies” needs all the help it can get.

  • Ella

ACK! No ill will to Heroes, but Pushing Daisies needs to be given the back nine (it’s original, creative, beautifully executed, and generally a joyful experience), and Brian Fuller *must* stay!!

The facts are these: I love “Pushing Daisies” and don’t care much at all for “Heroes” (though I agree that “Company Man” was a very good episode). I would beg ABC not to cancel the show but I know it’s hopeless. So we end up with a grand total of 22 episodes (about 1 regular season, spread over 2) of this absolutely wonderful show.

    I agree please save Daisies

Why can’t NBC buy Pushing Daisies off ABC?

  • Spud

I’ve given Heroes too many chances and every time it has failed me. Pushing Daisies has never let me down. ABC cannot cancel this gem! Let them renew it and allow Fuller’s genius to stay with us!

  • Caroline

Don’t cancel Pushing Daisies! It’s one of the best shows on tv!!!

Heroes had a fair chance in the past seasons to be repaired, they ruined it, they just wasted a good show, like Prison Break, sorry.
Pushing Daisies on the other hand, didnt fail once so far, it is still surprising, smart, different, entertaining, cute and oh so very charming every single week. In fact it makes me feel warm inside, makes my heart smile.
Since FOX cancelled my favourite show of all times, FIREFLY, I wasnt really falling for a show, until I saw Pushing Daisies last year.
LET IT LIVE people @ ABC Gorrammm!

I have no qualms with Hero’s, it’s my dad’s favorite show, however Pushing Daisies is mine, and it’s would be a television tragedy for it to be canceled. It didn’t get a fair chance last year with the damn writers strike, PLEASE KEEP PUSHING DAISIES!!!!!!!!

  • James

Who cares about Heroes, overrated show!
    Pushing Daisies is much better.

  • Josh

Pushing Daisies over Heroes any day! I mean ABC has to give it a chance, find a better timeslot, its such a different show. It’s light and happy and just so well written and acted. Come on ABC! I think by sying he’d work Heroes, he’s pushing ABC a bit. They don’t want Heroes good again(though to be fair it probably will never be a huge hit again)
