Ratings: CMA Awards hit it big for ABC

Sugarland_l
ABC’s coverage of the Country Music Association awards gave the network a resounding Wednesday night win. Hosted by Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley and featuring performances by artists like Sugarland (pictured), Keith Urban, and Kid Rock, the three-hour show averaged 15.9 million viewers. That’s more than a million viewers over the night’s second-most-watched program, Criminal Minds on CBS.

Don’t feel too sorry for The Eye, though — Criminal Minds (14.8 million viewers) gained half a million viewers from last week, while its steady half-hour shows, The New Adventures of Old Christine and Gary Unmarried, enjoyed slight gains as well. CSI: NY was the night’s third-ranked show in total viewers, with 11.6 million.

Most of Wednesday’s other regular programming fared about the same as usual, like NBC’s Knight Rider (5.3 million viewers) and Law & Order (7.9 million), and The CW’s Top Model (3.7 million) and Stylista (1.7 million). NBC’s Life (5.8 million) keeps on keepin’ on in its new time slot — the drama has seen slight viewership gains since its last Friday-night airing on Oct. 24. Fox’s Bones was the only hourlong with a significant gain — 10.9 million viewers compared to last week’s 10.1 million. Say it with me now: Booooooooooooooooooones.

I’m amazed at how many people watched this steaming pile. When Kid Rock is the most dynamic performer on a country music show…Nashville, we have a problem. Shania’s new record can’t come soon enough! And geez, would it have killed ‘em to squeeze in a little Statler Brothers tribute between the performances of the interchangeable pro-tools enhanced blonde brigade?

I could not agree more with that comment, its one thing to take a person into the studio and process their voice through every known device with Pro Tools, its another thing when they can do it on stage and Taylor Swift is the worst I have seen in years.

Won’t comment on any particular artist, but wanna give the show a D-. Very lackluster and some of the women dressed like it was halloween or something. Better luck next year. Thanks.

I completely agree w/ the 1st 2 comments, especially the Taylor Swift deal–I don’t think she can sing at all–she’s only “making it” b/c she’s in the country genre–her voice is nothing special & she can’t sing anything other than the 3 notes throughout the whole song. & for people who say she’s “beautiful”? Nooo, Hollywood’s magic touch can make you look better…she’s cute, not beautiful…the only best parts of the night would be Brad Paisley & Keith Urban’s collaboration, Carrie Underwood’s emotional performance, Kenny Chesney’s well-deserved win, & lastly, Shania Twain’s appearance.

I thought it was another fantastic awards show for the CMA. Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood were great hosts. Brad Paisley was especially funny. Of the performers, Lady Antebellum and Kid Rock provided the throw down. Brad P. and Keith Urban rocked out, and on the fun side of things, George Strait and Kenny Chesney each performed nice, bouncy little tunes. Though last year’s awards show was a knockout, this was still stellar. Let’s see if the American Music Awards can put on a show filled with this many fantastic performances, great dancing, and not have a boring segment throughout the entire 3 hours telecast.

I think the awards show was great– no compliants like everyone else states. All the people who complain need to just change the channel and keep their mouth shut I get so annoyed with people who do not appreciate a good show. Those kinda of people just need to complain to live and I am sure it is a miserable life they live as much as they complain.
