Exclusive: Another 'Grey's Anatomy' Actress Exits

Janinagavankar_lIt’s time for another round of, “Guess who’s leaving Grey’s Anatomy now?”

Here are your clues: The person is female. She played an intern. Her character’s name is Lisa. And…oh, yeah, if you blinked you probably missed her.

If you guessed Janina Gavankar, congratulations, you saw the photo to the left and connected the dots!

Sources confirm to me exclusively that the L Word alum, who joined the cast in September as one of several new Seattle Grace interns, has left the show after just two episodes. Per one insider, the role turned out to be smaller than Gavankar had hoped (so small that I don’t even recall seeing her on screen.) And without a guarantee that her part would grow, the actress chose to move on.

There’s buzz Gavankar may be circling a far meatier role in White Collar, the USA Network pilot starring Matthew Bomer, Tim DeKay and Tiffani Thiessen.

Disappointed Gavankar’s Grey’s gig turned out to be much ado about nothing? Or are you of the opinion that Seattle Grace has enough doctors on staff? Do share.

As a religious follower of Stargate: Atlantis, I loved her role as Dusty Mehra that one episode. I love this news because it gives me a chance as a guy who finds Greys Anatomy to be a female sex dream coming to the small screen, and something I don’t care to see, another chance to see Janina. I’ve been looking forward to White Collar since hearing Matthew Bomer’s name, and was even more excited when I heard Thiffani Theissen’s name. Janina only makes it more of a must see than it was before.

Honestly, I was really dissapointed. You rarely see South Asian actors/actresses on shows in the U.S. I was REALLY looking forward to her getting a decent role on there. I don’t blame her one bit for leaving. Why should she stay when she was in like one scene, in the background for 2 secs.

She should consider herself lucky. Grey’s is a sinking ship and she deserves much more than they gave her. A little upset that ABC made a big deal about hiring her for Grey’s and then when it came time for the show, she was practically nowhere to be found. Typical ABC…using people for ratings and then throwing them under the bus (ahem Burke, Hahn, Miranda’s husband, etc) *Notice it’s all minorities, yes Hahn playing a lebian role counts.

this news do not worth to write, too small

When was she on screen at all?

  • kerri

I don’t even remember seeing her so no big deal to me that she is leaving.

  • AJ

That’s good news. There’s way too many unnecessary characters eating up screentime from the main ones who we all care about.

i don’t care but one less person on this show the better. keep the exits coming!

There is ENOUGH staff. More needs to go! Lose ALL the interns except Lex.

  • Anna

Great news more time for the characters I want to see

I watch this show religiously. Then I watch it again online. I have no recollection of this actress at all! So it’s probably just as well for her sake she’s gone. And please! let’s develop stories for the characters we already have! No more new docs, interns, long lost friends who cut themselves..You get my drift.

Wasn’t their a rumor her character would potentially be bisexual also? I remember reading the casting call said something about being comfortable kissing guys and girls. Hmm…
It’s not like the show needs any more character though, and quite frankly, the actress might end up being thankful she got off this sinking ship. I’m almost glad Brooke Smith isn’t there any more.

  • DS

She was another victim of the gaywashing by ABC of Grey’s Anatomy. When hired she was supposed to be willing to kiss either male or female and I thought I recalled reading a rumor her character was bisexual too. Too bad, at least her dumping was less public than Brooke Smith’s. Lucky for her… I guess.

  • Sophie

I can’t recall having ever seen her on the show, so I don’t really care if she leaves or not. There are too many characters alredy anway.

DS not true. That is SADIE
