'Chuck' Exclusive: Helfer in! Strahovski out?

Another week, another genius piece of Chuck casting…

Piping hot Battlestar Galactica toaster Tricia Helfer has been cast on Chuck as Special Agent Alex Forrest, a by-the-book ass-kicker and — here’s where things get a little frakked up — a potential replacement for Yvonne Strahovski’s Sarah.

Relax, I said potential replacement.

Here’s the deal: According to my Chuck mole, General Beckman — who has been growing increasingly concerned about Chuck and Sarah’s intensifying bond — considers bringing in a new G-woman to work alongside Chuck. Enter Agent Forrest, who shows no fear, no remorse and, much to Agent Casey‘s delight, is very easy on the eyes.

But Helfer isn’t moving in on Strahovski’s turf permanently, is she? Actually…no, she’s not. Helfer’s only booked for one episode (No. 18), and Strahovski’s got, well, an ironclad six-year contract.

Speaking of Chuck (a.k.a. the most consistently entertaining hour on NBC’s air, IMHO), here are two bonus casting scoops free of charge:

•    Jonathan Cake (Six Degrees) is coming on board for a multi-episode arc as a Gerard Butler-esqe British MI6 agent by the name of Cole Barker. The rugged, macho spy catches Sarah’s eye and makes Chuck feel even geekier than usual.

•    Sports Illustrated swimsuit cover girl Brooklyn Decker will guest star in episode 15 when Jeff and Lester take over the hiring process at Buy More and begin recruiting potential Buy More booth babes.

does this mean there’s a chance chuck and sara can be together? if so, i’m all for it!
as long as sara stays on the show, i’m good!
thanks for some good news after the terrible cancellation news!

  • Shawn

Crikey, man, you just about gave me a heart attack. No Sarah, no Chuck. Now that I’m calm, however, bring on the Cylon. Can we get a few inside jokes? Please?

  • Heather

With this casting news though, does it mean Chuck could survive for a 3rd season?

  • PT

It IS the best hour on NBC, Ausiello – you’re right! So, where are the Chuck Recaps??

  • Charstin

This will definitely be a good episode.

  • frank

If they ever got rid of Strahovski that would be the end of the show, and I assume Schwartz knows this. The fans love Sarah too much.
However this casting Tricia Helfer for this type of plot line is brilliant! I would love to see this kind of tension thrown into the mix as the CIA tries to keep Sarah and Chuck apart, it would make for a great story about them having to keep their relationship a secret.

  • Kiki

excellent! and PT your right … where are those Chuck recaps????

  • Kelly

Nice move. This is my favorite show and as long as they keep Adam Baldwin I don’t care who Chuck ends up with! Ok I may have been a bit rash on that because I do love Sarah!

  • Matt

Definately NBC’s best hour. Well maybe not if you count “The Office” + “30 Rock.” But Chucks up there with that combo!

  • Mmmmm…

…cut me off a big chunk of Jonathan Cake

  • Ellen

Geez, Mike…I was ready to have a heart attack right here, right now!!! After Pushing Daisies fate, I’m happy to hear Chuck is going strong. I love this show, and love **the most** the Chuck/Sarah duo. I’m glad they’re trying all this different storylines.

If they take Yvonne, they lose a viewer. This is absolutely the best show on TV in years, and they chemistry between Levi and Yvonne is tremendous…very “Bruce Willis – Cybill Shephard” in the early Moonlighting years…

  • bostonbean

Thanks for the positive news. Got me up after being bummed since last night about Pushing Daisies. There is now way Chuck can lose Sarah and the producers know it. After Bones’ leads, this is certainly the hottest pair. Although they are more cute than hot, due to chuck :) And glad to see all the great cameos. Tricia was great in Burn Notice, she can do no harm.

  • Don J

Relax people, Tricia is only on 1 episode as Mike states. Yvonne has a 6 year contract should the show make it that far.

  • Jill

Maybe I’m the only one who doesn’t care for Tricia Helfer? I don’t watch BSG (sorry!) When she popped up on “Burn Notice” I didn’t really like her character. But I’m glad to read that Yvonne isn’t going anywhere. She and Adam Baldwin are what makes this show.
