'How I Met Your Mother,' 'Big 'Bang' hit ratings records

CBS comedies Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother actually managed to tango a bit with ratings titan Dancing with the Stars Monday night. Bang hit its highest audience of all-time last night with 10.2 million viewers, according to preliminary overnight ratings, while Mother rose to a season best at 10 million, topping last week’s 9.8 million. The milestones are particularly impressive since the two shows were up against ABC juggernaut Dancing With the Stars, which certainly did not disappoint in terms of its own ratings. A whopping 21.3 million fans
tuned in to see the final three hit the floor in the penultimate episode of Dancing, 600,000 more than last
week’s episode. The dance fest’s big ratings also boosted Samantha Who? at 9:30 with 11.9 million, a nice uptick from last week’s 11.1 million. And Boston Legal closed out ABC’s evening at 10 p.m. with 8.7 million, a slight 200,000 increase uptick from last week.

Meanwhile, CBS’ 9 p.m. saw Two and a Half Men draw 14.9 million viewers, down slightly from last week’s 15.2 million. And at 9:30, Worst Week shot to its highest ratings since its premiere with 10.4 million eyes.

Over at NBC, Chuck performed about in line with last week’s numbers, with 6.7 million viewers. At 9 p.m., Heroes averaged 7.9 million, a 4 percent increase from last week’s airing but still hardly a return to its ratings glory. And at 10 p.m., another disastrous performance from My Own Worst Enemy, which attracted a paltry 4.3 million.

Fox’s Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles saw a deep decline in ratings with only 4.6 million viewers this week, a 13 percent drop from last week. Prison Break also fell 600,000 this week to 5.3 million viewers.

With no new Gossip Girl last night, The CW made it a One Tree Hill evening. Unfortunately, it appears that OTH needs the GG lead-in.: At 8 p.m., an OTH rerun only garnered 1.4 million viewers while a new episode at 9 hardly did much better with 2.2 million viewers.

    Naked man: awesome superhero references.

HIMYM was fabulous last night but so was Chuck. I’m so worried about Chuck. It’s one of the best shows on right now and not enough people are watching. It seems we had three years of worrying about HIMYM constantly being on the bubble and now I have to worry about Chuck instead. I don’t think my nerves can stand it.

4.6 million people is nothing to sneeze at!

I suspect Chuck’s ratings would be better if it and Heroes swapped timeslots. I personally attest to there being crossover between Big Bang/HIMYM fans and Chuck fans. And Heroes is just awful….

Chuck has been SO damn good this season

How I Met Your Mother was soooo funny last night! I haven’t laughed that hard in a long time. Barney and Ted’s poses were worthy of Benny Ninja himself.

Best One Tree Hill all season!

I’m so glad HIMYM has a growing audience. It’s been such an underrated show for too long.

I have to say that I have always LOVED HIMYM. This season has been a little off. But I have to say last week and this week’s episode’s have been hilarious. I hope they continue to keep up the funny and tone down the sappy. I don’t need sappy in my sitcoms.

I am sooo glad people who have rating boxes are watching the awesomeness of HIMYM. Oh my goodness, Ted doing the Captain Morgan and Barney doing the Bert Reynolds were the best and I was laughing so much at that. Such a great show, I am secure that CBS is keeping the show for next season. This makes me so happy after hearing the horrid news from ABC on canceling Pushing Daisies. Finally good news about a show favorite of mine.

I agree that there is probably an overlap among HIMYM and Chuck viewers. Hear that, NBC? Demote the nearly always horrible Heroes and put the nearly stellar Chuck in the prime 9:00 time slot.

Also, BBT is fantastic. So is *blushes* New Adventures of Old Christine.

I love CBS’s Monday night line up! I too love Chuck and wish NBC would move it to another night. Last season when Chuck went on a siesta I started watching Big Bang. Unfortunately for Chuck I was vested in Big Bang and Chuck had been gone too long.
