Ratings: Laurence Fishburne pushes 'CSI' over 20 million

Tagged: ,

Hello, Larry. Hello, even higher ratings. Preliminary data says 20.6 million checked out Laurence Fishburne on last night’s CSI, giving the show an 18 percent bump in viewers from last week and marking the first time since its September debut that the procedural attracted over 20 million watchers. (Despite being Thursday’s top show all season, the series had been in a ratings decline since early November). CSI’s success bled over to its follow-up on CBS, Eleventh Hour. Yesterday’s episode — which focused flesheating bacteria — hung on to 65 percent of CSI’s crowd, nabbing 13.4 million viewers and scoring its highest numbers of the season.  Earlier on the net, Survivor: Gabon’s penultimate episode (the finale airs on Sunday), attracted 13.2 million, it’s best viewership since October.

First-place CBS averaged out the night with 15.8 million viewers, more than double second place NBC’s 7.7 million. But the Peacock’s lineup of holiday episodes of My Name is Earl (6.6 million), Kath & Kim (5.3 million), The Office (8.8 million), and 30 Rock (7.5 million) still brought gifts. All four shows increased on their previous week’s numbers, while The Office nabbed its best ratings since October, and 30 Rock finally stemmed the slow but steady decline it’s suffered since the premiere. ER was also up from last week, with 8.9 million viewers.

Elsewhere, Fox’s double shot of reality competition/game show programming, Secret Millionaire (5.4 million) and Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?, landed the net in fourth place behind ABC’s back to back reruns of Ugly Betty, Grey’s Anatomy, and Private Practice. Repeats also ruled at The CW, which aired reruns of  Supernatural and Smallville for the second week in a row.

Ratings for CSI and The Office should’ve been up – Grey’s was in reruns!

It wasn’t because of Laurence Fishboure that people tuned in, it was because “Gil Grissom” is leaving the show and we didn’t want to miss him for the last time (didn’t know it would have be a continuation). Gill Grissom made this show and I will probably not watch it when he is gone. I know my mom definitely won’t watch it. Fishbourne just is not that interesting of a guy. Too bad!

Personally, I think they’re losing one of the sexiest men on TV today! His character is smart, quirky AND intelligent….a rare thing to have in one person on a show!
    He’ll be sorely missed!

Yes, rooting for Larry Fishburne and Angela Bassett to get the red carpet treatment and development deals over at CBS and NBC respectively.

Reruns or not I’ll watch, ”CSI”, anytime over “Grey Anatomy”, only ABC drama I watch is “Life On Mars”.

That was a pretty good CSI episode last night. I liked LF. I’m an occasional CSI watcher.I will continue in the same manner.

CSI was off the chain Thursday night. Normally I watch Grey’Anatomy and dvr CSI but GA is in reruns until January. Why is CBS the only network capable of running new episodes in December? No wonder the other networks are being crushed into submission. They don’t even have sense enough to schedule enough new programming to carry through to the new year. Really, ABC and FOX should join NBC and just fold up and go home. CBS is the only network with a clue how to provide interesting programming on a year round basis.

I didn’t watch CSI Thursday night because of Fishburne. I watched it because it was one of Peterson’s final shows.

Not everyone on the planet likes or even bothers to watch “Grey’s”. I tried a couple of times and literally fell asleep each time so I gave up. CSI is smart, fun and interesting and holds my attention.
