Exclusive: 'House' bosses on Chameron fix, Huddy sex, and the Thirteen controversy

House_lThe best part about House being the only drama series on a broadcast net receiving a Golden Globe nod? It meant executive producers David Shore and Katie Jacobs were not only at Sunday’s show, but they were in the mood to party. And by “party,” I mean offer me a rare joint interview in which they tackle such hot topics as the ongoing banishment of Chase and Cameron, the impending sex between House and Cuddy, and the controversy surrounding a certain numerically-monikered female doc. You know, my kind of party.

AUSIELLO: Let’s get right to the big issue: Chase and Cameron. They’ve been sidelined for nearly two years now. Fans are frustrated. I’m frustrated. Give us all some good news.
KATIE JACOBS:
We’re going to have some changes by the end of the season.
DAVID SHORE: The last half-dozen episodes of the season, significant stuff will happen. Potentially game-changing. [As a result], you will be seeing more of them next year. We found a way to use them more.

Has the situation been frustrating for you?
SHORE:
It has been. But it’s a good problem to have. We’ve got too many good people there, and trying to figure out how to use them has been an issue. But I haven’t been happy with [the Chase/Cameron situation]. I have been happy with what we’ve been doing with them. The quality is still there, it’s the quantity I’d like to see more of.
JACOBS: But it’s a marathon. Cameron and Chase are definitely still very much a part of the fold, and how we continue to unravel their story is hopefully enjoyable to the audience.

Fans resent the fact that Olivia Wilde is getting so much screen time. They feel it’s coming at the expense of Cameron. They’ve even taken to deriding the show as “The Thirteen Hour.”
SHORE:
I know. It’s unfair. One definitely has nothing to do with the other. I think Olivia is great. I think Thirteen’s an interesting character. It’s not like we’re going, “This will be a good story for a girl, let’s give it to Thirteen [instead of Cameron].” They’re two very different characters and we’re trying to find ways to use both of them as much as possible.
JACOBS: When you have 24 episodes a year and this is a fifth year, the fact that they want to see more of anybody is great. There are so many stories we have left yet to tell.

The other hot topic, House and Cuddy. It’s time they had some sex, guys.
SHORE:
They’ve got to, right? We’re with you on that.

It’s only really a matter of where they have it now, right?
JACOBS:
Where do you think they should have it?

One of their offices would be too obvious.
SHORE:
The glass walls in the hospital would be the problem there.

Inside the MRI machine?
SHORE:
I like that.
JACOBS: Nice and cozy.

So, basically, they are having sex this season, yes?
SHORE:
It’s actually way more complicated than that.
JACOBS: It’s not all that complicated, David. It’s just sex.

Sounds like an unequivocal “Yes!” to me! What do you think, House fans? Excited that Shore/Jacobs are (presumably) going all the way with Huddy? And are you as encouraged by the Chameron news as I am? Sound off below!

Why are people so critical of 13? Olivia is a tremendous actress. The other two newbies are unneeded and lack the personality and intrigue of 13.

YESSS! XD HUDDY SEX!!! OMG I’m soo happy right now!

  • speckalot

    OMG huddy !!!!!… faints

  • Mary

Wow, great interview. Thanks so much for starting off with a Chase and Cameron question – that’s all I really care about! And I’m liking the answer (though we’ll just see how it plays out).

I believe that online fans (and that’s true for nearly all shows) are making too much noise for nothing. Especially shippers and character fans/haters. Sometimes I hate them more than the the showrunners faults. Because they ruin their show themselves by asking too much. Sowrunners just tell us good stories an fans shut up. If you have the talent go and write book. I bet it won’t sell.

House and Cuddy and their ever evolving relationship is the best part of this show. I cannot wait to see them move forward.

  • ZING

Huddy sex! Huddy sex! Say it with me, say it loud! Huddy SEX!

    HUDDY!!! HUDDY!!! HUDDY!!!!

I really hope that their plans for more Chase and Cameron pay off, because they’re infinitely more interesting than the new wave of fellows–especially since we’ve invested so much time in them. Especially Chase, who had a really interesting, complicated relationship with House that they have entirely ignored.

The only reason I’m still even attempting to watch this show is for the House and Wilson scenes. Do they even pay attention to the patient of the week anymore? Instead we get all this Foreteen, Huddy and Chameron crap. I DON’T CARE! As far as the newbies, I, like most, HATE Thirteen. I just want her to die already. Don’t really care either way about Taub, but I like Kutner. When are we gonna find out more about him, huh, PTB? That would be nice. So would hearing/seeing Cameron and Chase every once in a while. Remember them? Oh wait, I forgot, we have the “tension” between House and Cuddy to “explore.” Whatever. A dishrag and soap have more chemistry than House and Cuddy. As for the potential Huddy sex? I think I’m going to throw up. Seriously. I hate you, David Shore!

  • Lisa

you seem a wee bit bitter Michelle..
David Shore, I love you!! Thank you so much for creating House. The best show ever!

  • meg

I love how in the early seasons people complained about Cameron and Chase and now they want more. Not that I don’t agree. Also, if they feel the need to fixate on a newbie make it Kal Penn. He’s the most interesting new character if you ask me.

  • Christina

I am at such great and cheery mood since yesterday that I find everything wonderful! Not that they said sth that is not! House and Cuddy are finally getting it on (HUDDY SEX IS AHEAD BABY!), Chase and Cameron finally become useful again (I just hope not at someone else’s expense, like they are going to do at the next episodes with Cameron) and as for the Thirteen stuff… I trust them to end her arc beautifully! There is a reason they are focusing on her more and I think we are going to find that out soon! I am so happy! I want to hug all the world! Finally, good spoilers are given to us again! It reminds me of the good old times!

  • Lisa

I am glad that they realize we need more Cam/Chase. Maybe they will progress with 13′s Disease. That could be interesting to watch. Don’t care about Huddy at this point, just don’t want no miracle baby. It’s been overblown and borderline abusive and extremely unromantic. Let’s hope they have sex in the MRI machine and it explodes decimating the entire hospital…then House wakes out of the coma he was in at the end of Season four.
