One would think the stench from Grey’s Anatomy’s much-maligned afterlife love story between Denny and Izzie would’ve scared all the ghosts away from primetime for good.
But one might be wrong.
The producers of House are engaged in preliminary talks with Anne Dudek — a.k.a. Wilson’s deceased girlfriend, Amber/Cutthroat Bitch — about returning later this season, sources confirm to me exclusively.
As who? Or, better yet, what? That’s the $1 million question.
“I can confirm that we loved Anne, and I can confirm that we loved the character of Amber,” responds executive producer Katie Jacobs. “But I cannot confirm that [she] is coming back.”
But Jacobs also can’t deny it, which brings us to the other $1 million question: Is House planning to take a page from Grey’s Anatomy‘s loopy medical journal and have Wilson start spooning his dead ex-girlfriend’s ghost?
Not on your life, insists series creator David Shore (who, for the record, also isn’t denying Dudek’s return).
“It would never be a dead ghost sex love triangle thing like on [Grey's],” he says. Adds Jacobs: “That is a situation where we cannot just do whatever and expect the fans to accept it. I think that would make a large [number] of people switch off their TVs. I think if we tried that, heads would roll.
“But,” Jacobs continues, “if we could figure out a way to bring her back that is not a ghost sex plot, we’d be thrilled to do it and have her back.”
Let’s pretend for a second that Shore and Jacobs aren’t already concocting such a story (tee-hee), let me ask you: Would you be open to the idea of Amber returning to House — provided she doesn’t have to jump over any sharks to get there? (Additional reporting by Carrie Bell)

OH FOR THE LOVE OF GOD! DO NOT BRING AMBER BACK UNLESS IT’S A FLASHBACK! I do not want to see a twin sister either!
NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!
Nooooooo!!!!!! Don’t ruin what was a great storyline and episode!!!! Let her rest in peace!!!
No. No. No.
Seeing as the creators of House probably haven’t completely lost their minds, I’d say she’s probably coming back in a dream/hallucination.
I would LOVE a “life that never was” type episode, looking at all the characters. Wilson married to Amber, with kids. House never had the infarction. Cuddy had a baby in her 20s. Foreman never got the juvie record; Chase stayed in Australia; Cameron’s husband didn’t die. Kutner’s parents lived; Taub attempted suicide in med school; Thirteen didn’t have Huntingtons.
Seeing as the creators of House probably haven’t completely lost their minds, I’d say she’s probably coming back in a dream/hallucination.
No ghosts or dreams please! Flashbacks are fine and hallucinations are iffy…depends on the reason (no brain tumor)
basically, if the writers can find not only a non-jump-the-shark way but a GOOD way, then i’d be happy to see her come back.
did that make sense? ive had a long day…
WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT? Is this april’s fools yet?
David Shore and Katie Jacobs seem to be infinitely more self-aware than Shonda Rhimes.
This is so going to be a Wilson dream. or a House hallucination.
Although, seeing the direction the writers have been taking lately, maybe Thirteen will get a brain tumor and start having sex with her.
Now come on guys, consider the great episodes like three stories, the mistake, without reason, and (even the episodes she went out on)house’s head, wilson’s heart. House has done a great job on their abstract episodes without being weird or jumping the proverbial shark. I for on want to see amber back as much as possible and trust the producers and writers to do a great and tastiful job of it.
Oh, how quickly we forget about the standard bring-back-an-ex-cast-member-via-flashback approach in this post-Grey’s world.
Sounds like they’re pulling an ER to me.
I love Anne Dudek, but unless Wilson or House has some sort of dream (and actual sleeping dream, not a waking dream) where she plays a role, then I don’t think it would work. Obviously, she can play a role in House’s sub-conscious, just like she did in the eps, House’s Brain and Wilson’s heart, but nothing more that that, please.
How about we let her character on Mad Men get a little bit more fleshed out instead. I’d love to see more of Francine!!
“I think that would make a large [number] of people switch off their TVs”
Oooh, too late for that, Katie!
i think it’s good if they are doing flashbacks…that’s the only good reason i can think of
