Oscar-winning Once couple Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova’s romantic relationship has ended after nearly two years together. But the pair, who are currently touring together as The Swell Season, are keeping their musical partnership going on stage and in the studio.
“It can be confirmed that we are indeed moving forward on honoring those tour dates as well as completing the new record which they began working on last year,” North American manager Howard Greynolds tells EW via email, adding that their new album “is due to be completed in the next two months and is currently scheduled for an August release date.” The Swell Season begins a three-day stint at Australia’s Sydney Festival tonight; next week they are scheduled to play a date in Hansard’s native Dublin.
Hansard told the Sydney Morning Herald this week that he and Irglova remain “really good friends”: “[Dating] was a very necessary part of our friendship but I think we both concluded that that wasn’t what we really wanted to do. So we’re not together now.”

I’m so sad to hear that they’ve broken up, but glad that they’re continuing to make music together. Hopefully they stick it out beyond the CD and tour, unlike Damien and Lisa.
I hope they can get through this. Once was such a simple, lovely film, and their music was very beautiful. I wonder if it will be obvious if the magic is gone in their music, since they are no longer together. I hope not.
I was so sad to hear this news! It almost sours “Once” for me in a way. Both the movie and soundtrack are dear favorites of mine. But I suppose with the age difference between Glen and Marketa, it was inevitable. Glad to hear that they are still friends and are able to maintain a professional relationship. Their music is too good to let go of.
I absolutely love their music, so I really hope they continue on past this as well.
Sad to hear it, but thank GOD we can get some new Frames material
Such a sad news, I really love their music, especially new version of The Frames old songs, hopefully they will keep their music partnership going.
It’s for the best-If you have ever met them out in public-they didn’t seem very happy people. She can do a lot better than an overbearing father figure anyway.
To me, their relationship was their music, their music their relationship. Their voices belong together, and I thought/wished they did, too. I prefer him with her voice and piano, so the Frames, while great, will not be “Twice.” Only the Swell Season could continue this sort of success- there are too many people who have already missed it. I’m a ridiculous romantic, and the only consolation for me regarding the movie’s ending was that in real life, they were together, and making music too. Fulfilling commitments and finishing an album is not the same as forging ahead artistically, either. Stop writing love songs, people, if you don’t know what the hell it is!
