Exclusive: 'Gossip Girl' spots Anne Hathaway-inspired plot

Annehathawaygossip_l Forget that ho-hum Oscar nomination. Now Anne Hathaway has something even cooler to brag about: her very own Gossip Girl plot!

Sources confirm to me exclusively that the show is planning a season-ending story line loosely inspired by the actress’ infamous (and fizzled) romance with Italian grifter Raffaello Follieri, who was convicted last October on 14 counts of wire fraud, money laundering, and conspiracy. In the world of Gossip Girl, Blake Lively’s Serena will play the unsuspecting ingenue who falls for a handsome European socialite — in this case a hunk named Gabriel (casting is under way).

Though she won’t confirm or deny the story’s Hathaway-esque twists,
executive producer Stephanie Savage reveals that Serena’s beau is “very
well-traveled, part of the global elite. He’s not a brooding artist
like Dan or Aaron rose. He’s definitely a grown-up, and that’s something Serena is very attracted to.”

Word is that GG‘s version of the story will take a turn that is so much
darker than the Hathaway saga that it ultimately puts Serena’s life in
danger. Moreover, it triggers the return of Michelle Trachtenberg’s
Georgina Sparks and casts our heroine’s sworn frenemy in the unlikely
role of savior
.

What do you guys think? Is GG smart to be ripping stories from the
headlines? Or are you annoyed that so early in its run, its writers are
already cribbing plotlines from the tabs? Sound off below. (You first,
Anne.)

    serena deserves a better plotline!
although I wish she & Dan will end up together, they were such a sweathearts last season…

I’m fine with the ‘ripped from the headlines’ approach. It’s worked for L&O for all these years, right? What seems a little too daytime soap to me is Serena’s life being in danger. Just like Mer’s drowning stint on Grey’s, the audience is sure that a main character isn’t going to die (at least without us knowing first), and it just makes for an annoying watching experience.

Two words: Matt Cohen. Why isn’t this guy in a show like this?

I’m alsoe more than OK with the ‘ripped from the headlines’ approach.

Maybe Girgio will owe money from some gangsters or the mob or something and therefore putting Serena in danger because they will use her to get to Giorgio.Maybe she’ll find out Giorgio’s secret but actually help him keep it which would make her an accomplice and putting her in trouble with the feds. There’s alot of things you could do with this storyline so i’m really looking forward to it.

    omg!serena is wedding !!!!bride wars!!!!!!!!!!
He’s definitely a grown-up, —means commited what blair wants something serious

  • PS

I think it’s ok. As long as they have an interesting take on the storyline, it will work.
I’m not liking the current teacher storyline that much. I’m not sure if it’s been discussed, but it reminds me of the book “Prep” a little bit. Of course GG is far more salacious, but I think this is an example of the show’s take being less than good.

Not sure this storyline will suck viewers in considering we already have an idea of how it will end up.
And we’ve already seen a European elite with Marcus.

I’d rather watch some mess like this than that mess they put on Monday!
It may sound silly, but I’ll take it! Anything other than Semi-Cougarville and Wannabe Eyes Wide Shut!

  • pinkpanda

hmm this might jus work i could be good and if gorgina comes backk…… then it will be good she puts the d in drama

  • Robin

It sounds kinda stupid, then again Serena’s just that stupid so maybe it’ll be good. GG has been flat-out abysmal the last two episodes, it’s like they’ve completely forgotten how to write Blair.

  • clynngo

I can’t believe that the writers are doing this AGAIN. It’s only the second season and Serena and Dan have fallen in and out of love how many times? How many iterations of the will-they won’t-they drama do we have to sit through?
Seriously. Can’t they come up with better plot lines instead of this tired drivel?
