'NCIS' scoop: Chris O'Donnell, LL Cool J to headline spin-off

Tags:

Odonnellllcoolj_lIt looks like the new NCIS is poised to far surpass its recruiting goals.

CBS declined to comment but multiple sources confirm that Chris O’Donnell and LL Cool J are in final talks to headline the Eye net’s forthcoming NCIS spin-off. The 38-year-old O’Donnell would play Callen, a role previously described as “a human Transformer who can change personas as easily as you or I change clothes.” The 41-year-old LL, meanwhile, is circling the role of Sam Hanna, an ex-Navy SEAL who recently completed stints in both Afghanistan and Iraq.

O’Donnell and LL would be the first actors to climb aboard the high profile project; four other roles are still being cast. Once assembled, the new team will be introduced in an episode of NCIS to air later this season before being launched into their own show next fall.

What do you think? Are Meredith’s veterinarian ex and the onetime rapper the right guys to lead NCIS 2.0? Comment away!

I think LL could be really good. Chris O’Donnell?? hmmmm I don’t know….

Nothing can be as good as the original cast, but I’ll check it out.

I’m definitely willing to give this spin-off a shot – anything related to NCIS will catch my attention. …but I wish Lee Pace would get involved. Now that Pushing Daisies is officially dead, he needs a new project. This sounds good to me….

I actually might watch this. I love Chris O’donnell

I think it’s a mistake in general to have a spin-off for NCIS. I think one of the reasons it has remained so strong so far and is in fact growing its audience is because they haven’t diluted the show with spin-offs the way that CSI did. JMO.
As for the casting, I’m not sure I’d want Chris O’Donnell as the lead. I think I’d want someone with a stronger presence – i.e. someone who exudes strength. While I acknowledge that Chris is a familiar face and a pretty good actor, he doesn’t come off as someone who could ‘put the fear of God’ into me. Once again JMO.

I love NCIS so much, I’ll definitely give the spin-off a chance. And O’Donnell’s character of a human chameleon sounds very intriguing. I’m excited to see these characters in action later this season!

Oh God I hope you were kidding when you said ‘NCIS 2.0′…
Thanks for the Scoop, Ausiello. I almost did a double-take when I saw NCIS scoop not in AA… Pretty sure it’s my birthday today!!:D:D
Anyway, I’ll be watching the spinoff… As long as there is Sexual Tension between leads!
Nothing will beat the original or the TIVA for that matter) however I look forward to this. Chris O’Donell is very VERY good to watch.
    xox.

A lead character who can change identities on a whim and his Navy SEAL sidekick? Isn’t this show called “Burn Notice”? LOL

The casting of Chris O’Donnell and LL Cool J sounds good to me. I always enjoy both of them on screen. I think people hear spin-off and expect (like with the CSI franchise) that the new show is the old show but with new characters and location. I hope this spin-off is different enough so they can make it their own.

  • Callie

sounds like a Burn Notice concept rip off to me to be honest…

    hey
    ok NCIS spin-off?? wow
i am interested what that is going to be
and isnt NCIS a spinn-off of JAG?
well for the actors nice choices

I really like Ll he does some good work and O’Donnell is okay. But more my question is what are they going to do in the spin off is it going to be another NCIS kinda show like CSI and CSI: Miami or is it going to be like Babylon 5 and Crusade?

  • kkn

Interesting choices. But this is a team show and its success won’t depend on them getting a star or two but jelling them into a real team with its banter and care and friendship – that’s what makes NCIS such an amazing show. If they can do that, it’ll be awesome. I will be definitely checking it out, that’s for sure :)

  • Gus Bricker

Isn’t Chris O’Donnell a little too big of a star to be 2nd or 3rd fiddle?

  • MrsC

I have never watched NCIS, but would def give a shot to a show with these two on screen. What an interesting pair. I always wonder why Chris O’Donnell doesn’t work more. Must be having too much fun being a family man in CT.
