Chris Brown Wrigley's gum ads suspended

Tags: , News

The fallout from Chris Brown’s arrest last night has begun. In a statement to EW.com concerning its ad campaign for Doublemint gum that incorporated Brown’s song “Forever”, the Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company said that it is “concerned by the serious allegations made against Chris Brown,” and while they believe Brown deserves “due process,” they are suspending all ads “and any related marketing [featuring Brown]…until the matter is resolved.”

Brown turned himself into police custody last night in connection with an investigation into charges of a felony battery that allegedly took place in a car early Sunday morning. He was released from LAPD custody after posting $50,000 bail on Sunday night and is due in court March 5. It is being reported that the alleged victim’s name is Robyn Fenty, the real name of R&B singer, and Brown’s girlfriend, Rihanna.

I imagine that this is only the beginning. If the allegations against him have any shred of truth to them, he’s going to be blacklisted for a long time.

“It is being reported that the alleged victim’s name is Robyn Fenty, the real name of R&B singer, and Brown’s girlfriend, Rihanna.” Does that mean that it’s actually Rihanna who’s charging him with assault?

  • M

Emma- It would mean that the victim of the assault was Rihanna. Only the police and the District Attorney who can charge him with assault, not Rihanna. But all signs do point to her being the victim of his attack.

Lets see him backflip his way outta this one!

  • WOW

Well he witnessed his mother go through this. You would think he would choose another route. Woman Beater.

Due. Process. Wrigley’s is within its rights to hold off on Brown’s commercials until more info comes available. It makes absolute business sense.
It just boggles me how some people take such glee in a talented performer’s troubles. Does it make you feel better?

  • Zakry

Oh, and its being reported by the LA Times… and no one else. Other satellite sources are saying it
MAY be Rihanna, but I am waiting for the REPUTABLE news agencies to say so before I start believing that.

I really hope it’s Rhianna. I have nothing against the girl but these stories are sooooooo much sexier when they happen among celebrities. It’s like a theatre piece (for the uninvolved) that will, sadly, run its course quickly enough. Maybe it’s why Whitney was at the Grammy’s. One of those “you can only be free once someone takes your place” type deals. Phoenixes and sunrise/sunset and God closing one door/opening another, and all that jazz. Let’s just hope, if that the case, that the crack binge to come won’t be enough to make the comeback tour tickets grossly overpriced. OOOHH! maybe Bobby can mentor Chris on VH1! This is truly a gift that keeps on giving! It’s the best Christmas EVER! Free gum for everyone!
