Exclusive: 'Ugly Betty' lives!

Uglybetty_lAn Ugly mess has been averted!

Despite the, ahem, perception problem that resulted from that whole open-ended hiatus thing, ABC is on the verge of renewing Ugly Betty for a fourth season, sources confirm to me exclusively.

The network is also said to be thisclose to giving early pickups to Grey’s Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, Brothers & Sisters, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, America’s Funniest Home Videos, and The Bachelor.

An ABC spokesperson says the net “is not ready to announce any pick-ups at this point.”

As you know, Betty‘s future was called into question when ABC announced that it was temporarily replacing the show on Thursdays with an all-sitcom comedy block. At the time, Alphabet insiders insisted the show was safe, and, gosh dang-it, they weren’t lying!

What say you Betty fans? Relieved? Indifferent? Worried about Life on Mars and Samantha Who? now? Sound off below!

I’m going with indifferent. It isn’t the show I loved in the first season.

    Yay for B&S and DH!!
But what about Life on Mars, i know it’s not perfet but it’s a very nice show!!!
At least i hope we’ll have some answer…

Phew! Crisis averted… I hope. Even when it’s slightly off it’s game, Betty is a joy to have around–and I think it’s been mostly on this season. And it brings something unique to the TV landscape. Hope this news is reliable!

    I’m quite relieved!!!

Last Thursday’s episode proved to me that the show is still a delight despite a lackluster season. It would be even better if they brought back Gio, got rid of Molly, and brought on Blair Underwood as a love interest for Wihlemina. I still say Ana Ortiz and Mark Indelicato should be used more as well.

Yes, I’m worried. I love Life on Mars, and ABC wavering on its fate is twisting a knife in my PD-cancellation-induced wound.
Samantha Who is great too– ABC: keep working on your bad reputation, and renew your clever, quality shows!!!

Im really really relieved!!! Im so hapy that ABC has finally come to some senses…Ugly Betty is one of the few feel good tv shows out there…after the cancellations of “Pushing Daisies” and “Eli Stone” i was really disappointed and ready to just watch NBC…..I doubt if Cupid has the comedy punch as some of the others but the new Cheryl Hine show looks really funny…..here’s an idea….Ugly Betty regular time slot followed by Samantha Who and the new comedy by Cheryl & Megan…..!!! just a thought

  • AJ

Life on Mars is all but canceled. Accept it now and you won’t be upset in May when it’s official!

  • Ann

PLEASE give Life on Mars a chance to find its legs! We all know it’s not as good as the British series, but now that its finally creating its own plotlines and the rehashing the original, it could get better.

On the verge is not renewed.
Last year you said the same of Women’s Murder Club. So I think UB is a goner too.

  • David4

The show sucks, but ABC needs something.

  • Anon

Please cancel Grey’s Anatomy ABC. It needs putting out of it’s misery. The actors on the show need to all be let go.

  • Bobbi

YAY! Really glad to hear about UB. Despite what others say, I could care less about the British version of Life On Mars. I would dearly love to hear that OUR version has been renewed. It is the least they can do after cancelling Eli Stone.

  • JS

it may be coming back next season, but it wont be in the Thursday timeslot. ABC will put a new show there, trying to strengthen their Thursday lineup. Look for Ugly Betty on Tuesdays or Fridays.

  • Keri

Phew! Happy dance, happy dance! My Thursday’s will stay beautiful for another year at least.
