'America's Next Top Model' will require models to be 5'7" or shorter for new cycle

Contestants for the 13th cycle of The CW’s America’s Next Top Model will be required to be at or below five feet, seven inches (5′ 7″) in height for the first time in the show’s history. According to a network press release, previous seasons have set 5′ 7″ as the minimum height, but host Tyra Banks is quoted in the release exclaiming that the fall 2009 cycle will be “a year for the shorter model!” The official ANTM application available at The CW’s website, however, clearly states that “Producers reserve the right to make case-by-case exceptions…[and] are looking for a variety of models, including plus size models.” Open calls for the 13th cycle begin Feb. 28 in Miami, Fla., and will hit San Franscisco, Washington D.C., New York City, Dallas, Chicago, and Los Angeles over the course of March.

    thats a load of crap.
    5’11 + girls own it.

    • Bazinga

5’11+ girls are a load of sh*t ya douchebagette. Something’s so wrong with the air up there.

    • Laurenn

      uhhhhhhhhm. im 4’10 & a half and i think you suck. lmaooo. get a life & a new mind thats actually open. (;

    • Rayna

What you just said was “a load of crap” I’m 5 ft and can sure as hell work it better than anyone taller than me.

      • Lisa Russell

I’m 5 ft, too. Tiny girls definitely have more potential than what we’re given credit for. We can work it as well as the tall girls.

    • Fatih

Wow. ur definately full of it. There is nothing sexy about a woman that towers over everyone. women 5’7 are more realistic.

    • CP.

      LOL. @FATIH…..LAURENN…
5’7 IS MORE REALISTIC… 5’11. YOU MIGHT AS WELL SHAVE YOUR HEAD AND BECOME A MALE MODEL…
PETIT IS THE WAY TO GO. WE DONT LIKE HATERS HERE…

  • Kristi

so do 5’1″ girls … you just never get to see them ;)

  • izikavazo

Oh fun, the winners will look less and less like models. As if it wasn’t bad enough.

    • helen

      fecking eegit

  • Rachel

does this also mean the year of finding a model who won’t be able to work after she’s wins because she was short???

    • Bazinga

I’m sure there are jobs out there for the shorter models. 5’5 people need clothes too!!… and look at Eva Longoria. 5’2 and still booking jobs =)

      • RoxieJunea

I think there should always be a varity of models per Season . Or alternate seasons . Short ,tall, short, tall
The majority of females are between 5’1″ and5’9″ so these ridiculous expectation s for 5″10″ 100lbs models. Is gross and not attractive . I’m 5’6″ I model full time and love it. It’s my passion . I don’t feel it’s fair I can’t book many fashion jobs due to industry standards .

  • Realme2008

I’m definitely not going to watch. I’ve watched ANTM for 11 cycles, but count me out on this one. Not realistic at all.

  • Duy

Wow what total B.S. This just completely discredits them when they say they want someone high-fashion. Then again, the show never had any cred in the first place.

  • miao

So possibly we’re looking at a season of short fat models who we’ll never see again except for a cover girl ad during ANTM? Not sure how interesting it’ll be to watch cat fights between girls who look like my cousins. But, hey, why not? It’s not like any of the skinny tall girls have made much impact in the modeling world.

    • 2010

just because their short it doesnt mean there fat.

    • CP.

true… just because your short doesnt mean you’re fat…idk where you r from but me… im a size 0 and im 5’3 and 17 years…and i know a lot of people like me.

  • IFR-VFR

you don’t need to be 5’11″ to be on the cover of a fashion magazine…. look at Eva Longoria-Parker!! cycle 13 is more realistic. btw, a size 10 is considered “plus size” in the modeling world!!

    • gege

      ya a size 10 is a plus size!!! i’m a size 1!

      • CP.

im a size 0 and im 5’3 and 17 years old.!!!.

    • CP.

im a size 0 and im 5’3 and 17 years old.!!!.

  • Mela

Short models…no chance for actual industry work but I guess this will make all the car/tradeshow models happy.
Under 5’7 is a horrible way to gooo!

    • CP.

hater…and your probably 5’11 and wish u could see the world in our light.

  • Yanni

GREAT IDEA!! 5 foot girls may not dominate the runway but they will sure sell those adds with the fit of them jeans! Tyra has the means to make public what men and fashion already believe “short women got the curves to make them slurge”
I’ve seen plenty of short beautiful girls who deserve to be on covers across the board! Granted, I may not be the best but I’m 5’2 and I’ll run with the best of them. On that note, count me and all my SHORT friends in!
Viewers are gonna hate to love this cycle!

  • kimberly

what is wrong with all you girls sayin that 5’7 and under can’t own it. so because you were born a little short you aren’t entitled to the same things as the girls who weren’t. you guys need a reality check and a personality. i think it will be a change and something good for once! i’m tired of seeing the same thing over and over again…….

    • Jean

      Amen to that!

  • lexi

im only 17 and its been my dream to be on americs next top model, im kind of upset that i cant participate and im feel i would be perfect for this, and my birthday to be 18 is june so im close but i guess not that close…anyways there is always next time i guess for 5”7′ models to be amercias next top model!!! ps:i think that tyra should make it okay for 17 years old just about to turn 18 when the show is going on to participate…anyways i love you tyra and one day i will be up there with you :) mwah

  • MARGE

ABOUT TIME! THIS GOING TO BE VERY INTRESTING, IM SIGNING UP FOR THIS!! LOL

  • kayla

OMG i cant believe this…finally there having a season for women under 5’7…but this also sucks because im only 15 years old(turning 16 in June)…i hope that this show is still on by the time im 18

  • Erica

    I wont be 18 until may! =(
