Updated: ABC cancels 'Life on Mars,' Mol relocating to 'Eastwick'?

Once again I get attached to a show with the word Mars in the title. Once again I’m mourning its premature demise. Read the full post.

WOW, guess ABC will have more time for The Bachelor and other pathetic programming. Good job ABC!

This series was great but did they hire some middle school kids to right the last ten minutes it almost ruined the whole series for me. Come on, a space ship!!!!!

What kind of thought process goes on at ABC when deciding the fate of a great show like LOM.Not much I guess.Great writing, acting, plot and wonderful characters must not be enough produce a TV series. No wonder my wife and I find ourselves watching cable series most of the time.

Michael Imperioli,Gretchen Mol,Harvey Keitel and Jason o’mara. Need I say more. They clicked very well and made the show worth watching. Its no wonder people are turning to cable t.v. for entertainment. What is ABC thinking? Apparently theyre not thinking. Its a shame, hopefully a cable carrier will pick it up and do something.

Let’s see: funny, insightful, romantic, clever, dramatic, character driven, thought-provoking….Yup, you’re right ABC, it’ll never stick. Another nail in the coffin of the “big three” networks. Oh wait, not any more. Let’s continue to follow the model of the other “big three”, the car companies – reward mindless copycats and squash originality.

Life On Mars is another example of the pain/futility of becoming a fan of a network series. ABC is run by cowards. Why can no network let a program develop a following? Annie, I’ll miss you.

It was/is My Favorite show on Television. I even made time to catch up on episodes online.. Each and every one! It’s a very clever show and guess what? I no longer have a favorite show on ABC. Bad move.

Two points here for the dissenters who are posting various versions of A) I saw the first episode and it was a pale copy of the BBC version so I baled, or; B) it barely pulled in five million viewers so stop complaining: Some of the greatest TV series from the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s and 1980s had terrible first season ratings and didn’t build a following until subsequent seasons – I Love Lucy, All in the Family, M*A*S*H, Hill Street Blues, Seinfield, Family Ties, Cheers … and on and on and on. In the past 15-20 years or so, networks give up on shows way too soon and therefore will never have any sustained success. Quality shows are never allowed to develop or bypassed by the broadcast networks altogether (such as the Sopranos), and most lightning-in-a-bottle shows tend to be one-season phenomenons.
Life on Mars took a few episodes to find its footing, but once established it continued to get better …

… The nuanced and adult relationship between Sam and Annie evolved throughout the series and was the best television love affair this season (for those that bailed out early and complained that they didn’t jump into each other’s arms early). Sadly, this series probably would have had a longer life on HBO rather than on any of the broadcast networks.
The only saving grace is that ABC gave the producers enough advance warning so that the last ten minutes could be changed from the planned season cliff-hanger into the series finale (which was always going to be the Mars mission regardless of how many seasons the series ran). So it ended up as a good mini-series rather than a canceled show with open plots left dangling.

One of my favorte shows and it’s gone. I knew quite a few people who were upset when we figured out that it was over. Oh well, another bonehead ABC move.

  • Lucy

For Once, I find a show really worth watching, and some boneheads at ABC don’t get it.
It had everything, it was different, entertaining, fabulous actors and great story. So disappointed, not watching abc anymore.

  • liz

Finally a show that was on the metaphysical side, plus it’s set in the 70s, great tunes, GONE! That just sucks!

  • bil

oh well, A(lways) B(eing) C(ancelled) is loosing the show they replaced a great one with. the unusuals is going by-by, and if they were smart, LOL, they would bring it back. but they can not admit they were wrong, and they do not read our views, or they would realize what a great show it was.maybe they should apply for a government bailout, they stink.

And people wonder why ABC is doing so poorly? Let’s cancel a show that has a decent following (which could be better once it’s got it’s footing) and instead make way for another “reality” show.
Short-sighted idiots who can’t see potential and pass judgement from behind their desks while talking on the phone.
    To quote Ren: “Idiots”

My wife and I have a son and one on the way. We both work very hard and spend very little time together..But when it came to life on mar, It was a family event. After the cancellation we make it a point NOT to watch anything the ABC has “thrown up”! Its not that hard, They show a lot of crap.
Excuse Me if I Sound Bitter.
