'Gossip Girl' exclusive: 'Lost,' 'Veronica Mars' alums flash back

Watroshansen_l
“Let’s do the time warp again!” is becoming a familiar refrain for more and more
actors, now that Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are filling out the cast for
their ’80s-set Gossip Girl prequel.

On the heels of Andrew McCarthy’s
hiring as the dad to Brittany Snow’s Lily, my moles tell me exclusively that Lost alum Cynthia
Watros is thisclose to a deal to play Lily’s mom, CeCe. Also coming aboard, I
hear, is Ryan Hansen, best known as Veronica Mars‘ aptly named Dick. He’ll play
Owen’s (Shiloh Fernandez) pal, Shep, who’s crushing (futilely) on Krysten Ritter’s Carol. (Hansen is currently appearing on Schwartz’ web series, Rockville.)

So
what do you think, peeps? Is all this gossip getting you psyched for the show?
Or did Schwartz have you at leg warmers and shoulder pads? Don’t keep it to
yourself, share with the class below. (Additional reporting by Andy Patrick)

I gotta be honest, as awesome as this sounds, regular GG needs a kick in the behind and it makes me wonder if this is part of the reason. There’s only so many hours in the day to work on stuff.

I think Cynthia would be great as CeCe, and I really hope she gets it. I just hope it doesn’t prevent her from being on Lost if they want her back for some episodes.

I am so down for this show! The whole thing is totally sick… I cannot wait! I just hope they do the 80′s justice. I hate it when its supposed to be a period show and you totally see hair and fashion from the current era. If you’re gonna do history, do it proud!

CeCe looks like an older Serena

Cynthia would be perfect! I’ll tune in just to see her, this character sounds somewhat closer (but not as crazy) to her classic Annie Dutton character, which she totally owned. Still mad we don’t have her Lost backstory.

“He’ll play Owen’s pal” – ahm, did I miuss something?! Who is Owen?

Eh, I am not so excited about spin-off. IMO, they have some cracks forming in the original show already. They should fix those instead of focusing their attention on another show. Doesn’t Josh have another show already plus he’s doing the X-men movie and they’re doing those little web episodes. Yeah, I think he’s stretching himself a little thin.

Josh Schwartz has looked Veronica Mars, he can say thank you to Rob Thomas for the casting work !!

You had me at Dick…I mean the guy who played Dick on VM.
But really I was down when the gorgeous Brittany Snow was cast as Lily.

  • Phil

I love Ryan Hansen, I cannot wait to see him in a new show.

  • Lara

I’m not that interested in this spinoff, but Ryan Hansen rocked as Dick on VM, so I just might have to check it out after all…

Check out Ryan Hansen in Josh Schwartz’s new original web series “Rockville, CA” at http://www.rockvilleca.com!

Andrew McCarthy may have saved this spin off, in my eyes anyway. Still, stupid idea for a spin off IMO. Im seeing Lily story being the Serena story JS and SS wanted to tell when they started GG.

Cynthia Watros would be great as CeCe! I can’t wait for this spinoff. Everything I hear about it just keeps getting better! Although, I think Watros would have been better served on Melrose 2.0. But it seems that they are going for a young twentysomething cast, not a late twenties to mid-thirties like the original.
