Exclusive: Kandi Burruss joins 'The Real Housewives of Atlanta'

NeNe, Kim, Sheree, and Lisa, make room for one more! EW has learned exclusively that DeShawn Snow’s replacement on Bravo’s The Real Housewives of Atlanta is Kandi Burruss, a singer-songwriter from the platinum-selling ’90s R&B girl group Xscape (which also included sisters LaTocha and Tamika Scott, as well as Burruss’ best friend Tameka “Tiny” Cottle).

Burruss is undeniably the most notable member from Xscape. Since the group parted ways in the late ’90s, she had a somewhat successful solo singing career (her biggest hit: “Don’t Think I’m Not”) but has seen ever greater successes with songwriting. Along with Cottle (who’s married to rap superstar T.I.), she wrote TLC’s 1999 smash hit “No Scrubs.” Burruss has also penned jams for Mariah Carey, Destiny’s Child, Boyz II Men, Alicia Keys, and Faith Evans. The singer-songwriter has a daughter, 6-year-old Riley, from a previous relationship, and a boyfriend.

Burruss fills the spot vacated by DeShawn Snow, who is the wife of Cleveland Cavaliers NBA player and NBA TV announcer Eric Snow. She was known on the show for her ridiculously large house and extensive staff, as well as a rather poorly received fundraiser she threw for the DeShawn Snow Foundation, which helps teenage girls with self-esteem issues. When the news came out that Snow would not be joining Housewives for season 2, she was quoted on Essence.com as saying a producer called her “and said that I was ‘too human for a circus show’ and that because the show
did so well, they are about to pump up the drama and they didn’t think
that I would fit in.” Snow is now pursuing a degree in divinity.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta was Bravo’s highest rated freshman series since Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, back in 2003. The series’ first season was also the second highest rated Real Housewives season ever, behind only season 3 of The Real Housewives of Orange County. It averaged 1.3 million viewers per episode and scored the highest rated Real Housewives franchise telecast ever, with 2.2 million viewers.

They should start a real housewives of Dallas. That city is full of rich women with bloated egos

I agree…I don’t believe that they don’t have a Dallas, Miami or L.A. (Beverly Hills); the O.C is not Los Angeles; I think that one of the requirements of the show would to actually be a “wife” not an “ex-wife’ of someone

I like this. I was thinking that Tiny would take the spot, but Kandi is cool.

Chris, I heard they were and Dallas is the perfect location for that show.

  • Housewife In the Desert

So, let me get this straight…there is only one Caucasian Housewife in all of Atlanta, and Kim, who is not even a real “houseWIFE” is it? Huh…Not being racist, just asking. I also wondered why there were no Afro-American Housewives in the OC & NYC. How about an interesting city with a REAL mix of rich women – like the aforementioned Dallas, Denver, Chicago?

KB is an atlantan “married housewife”?

  • Laila

Tiny is not married to T.I.
Not all these females are “housewives” or even married AKA Kim…

They should do one in Houston. It’s the forgotten TX state, of which people have a negative perception. It’s the fourth largest city, for ** sake…Why do Austin and Dallas get the most attention? and yes, Houston has blue blood territory…..many millionaires and billionaires. Please, network tv!! Houston next!!

EXCITED that Kandi has been added to my favorite show!!! Although, what happended to her Tiny and Toya doing their own show? Anyways, I hope Tiny and Toya will drop in on the show to support their girl Kandi
Kandi’s haircut is fly. I wonder if Block (her baby’s daddy) will make an appearance love him, Young Joc and Rick Ross (he manages them).
The potential here is too awesome.

If you want great drama and bloated egos, They should do a Real Housewives of Washington. Very Diverse Washington Metro Area Boast the Wealthiest African American community (WOODMORE, FT. WASHINGTON, BOWIE, MITCHELLVILLE) and Predominant Black County ( PRINCE GEORGES ) IN THE NATION. Also EXTREMELY prominant MONTGOMERY COUNTY, The Orange County of Washington. Also Loudoun and Arlington. All of these big ego politicians and the wives and mistresses…It’s bound to bring something big to BRAVO

interesting. i liked Kandi and I believe that DeShawn was just so sweet and all she did was smile with her pearly whites. I don’t judge her for living the show.

I think thats so stupid to replace Deshuone with Kandi from Xscape, ya’ll should have just added her making it 6, not taking the one away from the show who keeps things sane.

I personally love to watch all of the housewives seasons!I must say A.T.L takes the cake!I would have skipped watching the INAGURATION if it had come on at the same time(lol,j/k)!The fact the DeShawn is leaving is kinda sad because she was definitely the calm to the storm but,who likes calm BRING ON THE DRAMA!!!! The fact that Khandi is going to be on there (and i hope that doesn’t change close to time)i think is awesome!I’ve always been an XSCAPE TRUE FAN so to hear that one og the ladies will be on HWOOC I was thrilled.Khandi is not going to to take any bull from anybody and i hope she’s friends with ne-ne because she too is the bomb and the others would hate it!Lisa is ok she switches out too much though she needs to work on that!

Sorry but Kandi is rich for the ones who dont think so.
Just to let you know, usually songwriters get bigger checks than the performers. Please go check the girls stats!!!
