NBC to relaunch 'I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!'

Tagged:

As part of its busy (see: lots more originals) summer lineup, NBC has picked up new episodes of I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! for a special run in June. Having first debuted on ABC in 2003, the reality show that drops D-level celebs into the heart of the jungle will air Mondays through Thursdays for three weeks beginning June 1 and then air Monday through Wednesday during the fourth week of June. "This is a concept that has worked really well, all around the world," says NBC head of scheduling Mitch Metcalf of I’m a Celebrity…, which is based on an international reality-show format from Granada America. "It will jump start our summer."

NBC will also stack the deck for Conan O’Brien’s much-anticipated debut as the new host of The Tonight Show on June 1 by scheduling the season finales of Medium (June 1), Law & Order: SVU (June 2), and Law & Order (June 3)  — as well as the premiere of  the new drama The Listener on June 4 — during that week. The Listener revolves around a young paramedic (The Timekeeper’s Craig Olejnic) who is telepathic.

Two other new scripted dramas will bow this summer: The Philanthropist (June 24) which stars James Purefoy as a wealthy do-gooder, and Merlin (June 21), a 13-parter about the infamous Camelot sorcerer. Besides the return of America’s Got Talent on June 23, NBC will trot out two  made-for-TV miniseries this summer, as well: Meteor (June 7), a disaster flick that stars Christopher Lloyd and Marla Sokoloff, and Storm (July 19), a Treat Williams starrer about a man-made disaster gone bad.

A Jerry Springerless America’s Got Talent has to have them somewhat worried about the fate of the show. Hopefully Nick Cannon can inject some energy into it and prove the show still has the juice to be the top summer program because the rest of that new stuff is retread garbage. Getting people to watch a 2nd rate made for tv disaster movie when so many big budget disaster flicks will be out in theaters at the same time is not prudent. Save those for the fall or winter when a tv audience might be more receptive. “I’m a Celebrity” will tank right out of the gate. That was the most uninspired reality show ripoff the firt time it aired. I think the season finales of Medium and Law & Order and the new scripted drama are fine as feeders for Conan O’Brien but if that’s the strategy, why is it again that Jay Leno is replacing the 10 pm hour Monday through Friday this fall instead of scripted dramas???

Reality TV STARS: HEIDI/SPENCER? WHAT CHANNEL, WHAT SHOW, WHO THE H… ARE THEY. THEY ARE TOO RICH, TOO MUCH OF A CELEBRITY TO BE ON THAT SHOW FOR CHARITY? I DON’T KNOW WHO THEY ARE BUT WHEREEVER THEY GOT THEIR 15 MINUTES OF FAME, IT IS LONG PAST THE 15. NOT EVEN WORTHY OF BEING HASBEENS. GET THEM OFF. PUT ON SOME OTHER REAL CELEBRITIES.

NBC has finally pushed me over the top. I am banning NBC from my house. Why? The show is NBC’s copy of the way they treat people in real life. The 3 lobster dinner turns into 1 lobster because the men shared their food breaking the rules. They acted with kindness in hard living conditions. Yet NBC changes the rules all the time with total immunities. They bring people into the jungle after a week to stir things up. The new people get a free pass on the bugs biting them or having to eat them. NBC your channel has been blocked and banned from my house. I’m typing on my phone or I would explain more of what I mean. NBC knows already. Your way is Lies, Selfishness, and the NBC way. Try going back to Truth, Compassion, Strength and the American Way
