'Desperate Housewives' exclusive: Is this Nicollette Sheridan's replacement?

Desperatehousewives_l
The median age on Wisteria Lane is about to go through the roof.

Veteran character actress Gloria LeRoy is joining Desperate Housewives as a neighborhood fixture — presumably a longtime one — who we’ll first meet next month, right around the time Nicollette Sheridan takes her last breath as Edie.

But a Housewives insider insists the 77-year-old thesp, who’s probably best known for her scene-stealing work as Mildred “Boom-Boom” Turner on All in the Family, is not replacing Sheridan. Rather, my Wisterian mole teases, her character, Rose, “will figure into Edie’s exit in a surprising way” — one that involves an increasingly cuckoo Orson, a violent act, and a touch of dementia. And not necessarily in that order.

In other Housewives casting news, Sarah Knowlton (Medium, House) has been tapped to play a woman who may or may not be having an affair with Tom.

Median age? The median is the number in the middle of a distribution. So shouldn’t it be the ‘mean age’? Much as I like you, you need to know your basic statistics Ausiello (this might help: http://www.robertniles.com/stats/median.shtml).

I love Desperate Housewives. My fave is Marcia Cross: http://www.actressscene.com/search/label/Marcia%20Cross

it would be nice if something didnt leak out regarding this show. I know shows leak stuff for press, but I am sure Edie’s departure would have been much more shocking if we didn’t know it was coming. I don’t think Marc Cherry wants all this out. I know he didn’t want the 5 year jump spolied. There was something to be said for 20 years ago when there weren’t so many leaks on a show and you could actually be surprised. Who on DH’s staff can’t keep their mouth shut.

  • KJC

    WELL SAID MARC!

I, for one, do not mind the leaks, is that not on what Ausiello’s job is based? What I do mind however is Edie’s exit as I think she is an integral character. Also, it bugs me that there is never a mention of One Tree Hill brilliantly jumping ahead four years so as to skip the boring college years. DH was wise to do this, but certainly not the first.

How many times will they re-hash the Tom may or may not be having an affair story. Boring!

Love Boom-Boom but I will miss Nicolette terribly. Can’t say I blame her for leaving though as she hasn’t been given anything great to do in awhile.

    thanks KJC

Claire, I was going to post the same thing. Thanks for beating me to it! ;) Mean, not median.

    No Edie, No Housewives!

Orson is cuckoo because he had a demanding mother. Psychology 101 anyone?
Edie gets electricuted by a faulty telephone wire. Everyone knows already. She finds out the truth behind Dave, he finds out that she knows and decided so go sniper by trying to kill her with an air rifle. My guess is either he was written to to be a lousy shot or the character intended to hit a phone wire because while Edie is driving it somehow barbecues her while in the car!

    Yep-
    No Edie -no Me
Have fun without us Marc Cherry!

  • Zakry

    Have fun without YOU.
Edie was never one of the core housewives anyway.

  • Ron

Hey Marc Cherry: Edie was the reason I watched. See ya. Seriously.

Speaking of median age… The woman who plays Lynette is 47. Lynette stated her character is 43 on Sunday’s episode. Is there a reason no one can ever be their true age on a tv show? Just wondering.
