'HIMYM' exclusive: The Mother at long last revealed?!

Joshradnor_l
For once, I’m probably not jerking your chain with that title.

How I Met Your Mother co-creator Carter Bays tells me that the sitcom’s central mystery is about to be solved. Or rather, resolved. At least kinda-sorta.

“At the end of the season, we will address the title of our show,” reveals Bays, adding that the last four episodes will feature “big events in the lives of our characters — specifically Ted (Josh Radnor). We’re going to wrap up some things that have been left dangling.”

Translation: I think the M-bomb’s about to be dropped!

Bays wouldn’t elaborate on the nature of the revelation (i.e. will the mom actually be ID’d?) or how it might figure into this season’s cliffhanger. “But I will say at the very least that the season will end with a complete sentence,” he teases. “We’ve left some sentence fragments dangling in past seasons, but this year, there will either be a period, a question mark or an exclamation point. We will be giving the audience that.”

Thoughts on what that sentence could be? Do you think we’ll actually meet the mother or just learn more about her? Are you happy the show is getting back to its primary conceit? Sound off below!

Updated: Cibrian heads to 'Washington,' Wolf invades 'V'

Scott Wolf has been tapped to star in ABC’s reboot of the campy ’80s drama, V, sources confirm to me exclusively. Additionally, Eddie Cibrian will headline the CBS drama pilot Washington Field.

On V, Wolf will play the series regular role Chad Decker, an Anderson Cooper wannabe who is tapped by the Visitors to disseminate their propaganda to the masses. Meanwhile, Cibrian stars as the evidence response team coordinator and hazmat expert who works out of the FBI’s elite Washington Field office. The gig reunites the actor with his former Third Watch boss, Ed Bernero.

Updated: ABC cancels 'Life on Mars,' Mol relocating to 'Eastwick'?

Lifeonmars_lOnce again I get attached to a show with the word Mars in the title. Once again I’m mourning its premature demise.

Multiple sources are confirming that ABC has canceled my beloved Life on Mars. Per an insider, the network recently advised the show’s producers that it would not be ordering a second season. The heads-up will allow them to make this year’s season finale a series finale, thus leaving no questions unanswered. And unlike Pushing Daisies, Dirty Sexy Money, Eli Stone, etc., all indications are that ABC will actually air this series finale. We’re making progress, people!

Another advantage of pulling the plug now as opposed to in May is it allows the show’s stars to audition for fall pilots. Case in point: Gretchen Mol is currently in talks to join ABC’s adaptation of The Witches of Eastwick

Mourning Mars‘ passing? Relieved we’ll at least get closure? Hoping Sam and Annie will get it on before he hops on his time machine back to 2009? Sound off below!

Ratings: 'Brothers & Sisters' strong, though no match for 'Jesse Stone'

Tags:

ABC’s Brothers & Sisters brought the high drama with a two-hour movie Sunday, and it had the ratings to match. The Walkers’ baby/heart attack/embezzlement triple whammy pulled in 11.9 million viewers, the show’s best numbers since its season premiere — and all without its reliable Desperate Housewives lead-in. Of course, that didn’t stop Tom Selleck: His competing Jesse Stone: Thin Ice brought CBS 15.1 million viewers. Meanwhile, NBC eked out a respectable 8.9 million for the season premiere of Celebrity Apprentice – a far cry from Trump’s more boastable days, but hardly a disaster given the tough competition and total lack of lead-in support. (The net filled the rest of the night with clip shows of Tracy Morgan and Will Ferrell on Saturday Night Live.) Friday night once again proved fertile ground for mysteries like CBS’ Ghost Whisperer (11.6 million) and Numb3rs (9.6 million), not edgy sci-fi shows like Fox’s Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (3.4 million) and Dollhouse (4.1 million, down from its 4.8 million-viewer premiere).

Exclusive: 'House' boss previews 'challenging' ep, Huddy sex, and more!

Tags:

House_lIt’s Dr. House’s worst nightmare: a patient who doesn’t respond to his blood-pressure-raising button pushing. Like, at all.

In the Fox hit’s March 23 episode, rapper-turned-actor (ractor?) Mos Def will play a victim of locked-in syndrome, a paralytic condition that cuts off one’s ability to move and communicate. Isn’t that the same medical malady featured in the 2007 Oscar nominee The Diving Bell and the Butterfly?, you ask. Pretty much, says exec producer David Shore. “[But] we were very conscious of wanting to tell our story our way and not simply tread territory that they already covered so well.”

As in Butterfly, much of the change-of-pace story will be told from the patient’s point of view (see photo, above) — a storytelling device that proved “challenging,” Shore concedes. Also, Mos Def will communicate solely by blinking. But unlike Butterfly, the House episode — which was directed by Dan Attias, the acclaimed helmer behind last week’s road-trip-themed Big Love ep — is less about the patient and more about what’s going on around him. “Our doctors are told to keep his mind active,” explains Shore, “and they wind up saying things — personal things –- that they might not normally say.”

Hmm…might this ep lay the groundwork for House and Cuddy’s much-talked-about-by-me sex date? “I really don’t want to go into the particulars of [them hooking up] because we have found a really cool way to do it, and I don’t want to spoil it,” Shore hedges. “But I will confirm that we are taking things forward [with them].”

Weekend casting scoops: 'Gilmore' girl rushed to 'ER'! 'Attorney' retains 'Grey's' grad!

Alexismelissa_lWe interrupt your regularly-scheduled weekend activities to bring you these urgent casting bulletins:

• Now ER‘s series finale really qualifies as Must-See TV. In her first major TV gig since Gilmore Girls signed off two years ago, Alexis Bledel has inked a deal to guest-star in ER‘s two-hour swan song on April 2. According to People, she’ll play a new intern named Julia Wise in the episode, which chronicles a 24-hour shift at County General.

• Ex-Grey’s Anatomy doc Melissa George has nabbed the female lead in the CBS drama pilot US Attorney, sources confirm to me exclusively. She’ll play Susan, ADA and ex-wife to the section chief (played by Jason Clarke). Attorney centers around a team of federal prosecutors in the U.S. Attorney’s office in Manhattan.

You may now resume your regularly-scheduled weekend activities.
