If Grey’s Anatomy boss Shonda Rhimes is trying to win me back over after that whole Izzie-Denny-ghost-sex debacle, mission accomplished!
Sources confirm to me exclusively that Rhimes has tapped two of my favorite actresses on the planet, Everwood‘s Debra Mooney and Gilmore Girls‘ Liza Weil, to guest star in the show’s two-hour season finale on May 14.
Mooney will play mom to Kevin McKidd’s emotionally tormented Owen, while Weil will appear as a cancer patient who crosses paths with Izzie.
Interesting piece of trivia: Weil, whose sublime work as Rory’s acid-tongued BFF on Gilmore turned many a frown upside down, has ties to Rhimes’ other show, Private Practice; her real-life husband is the equally awesome Paul Adelstein (Cooper).
All’s (almost) forgiven, Shonda!

<3 Liza Weil. They should have given her a more recurring role though!
I heart liza weil! Thank you for making me happy shonda!
what the f*ck?? OWEN’S MOTHER is cast? what about alex’s mother?? We’re never going to meet his family?
I loved Paris on Gilmore Girls! She brought out the small sliver of rudeness in Rory. I think she’ll play an excellent cancer patient, especially if, as I expect they will, they write her character to be a catalyst for Izzie to stop feeling sorry for herself and fight for what she loves: Alex, being a surgeon, and, well, life itself.
Yay for more GG Alumni of Grey’s! Can’t wait to see Liza Weil on there. She’d be more suited as a doctor then a patient I think but still sounds good.

LOVE Liza – How about they kill Izzie off and Liza joins the show! Been watching my some of my favorite GG episodes on dvd, MAN I STILL MISS THAT SHOW!!!
Once I saw the word Everwood I just had to click this! (One of the best shows ever!) I love Debra Mooney. She was so brilliant as Edna. Maybe I’ll watch Grey’s again when she appears!
