Look at J.J. Abrams using his fancy sci-fi connections.

After collaborating on his upcoming Star Trek reboot, Abrams has signed Leonard Nimoy to join the cast of his Fox baby, Fringe.

The 78-year-old Trek icon will play William Bell, Walter Bishop’s former lab partner-turned-millionaire founder of Massive Dynamic.

“It was a delight to work with Mr. Nimoy on Star Trek,” J.J. tells me. “The idea that
he will play the mysterious, much-referenced William Bell is a thrill.
I know I sound like a goofy fan boy, but I can’t help it: Leonard is
an icon of the genre and such a wonderful actor. To have him come on
board Fringe is a mind-blowing honor.”

The character is slated to debut in next month’s season finale and then return in the fall for an extended arc.

Reaction? Is your inner fanboy on the verge of exploding? Already salivating at the prospect of Nimoy geeking out with John Noble? Stunt value aside, do you think Nimoy is right for the part? Sound off below!

That would definitely be one of the coolest things ever!

I can’t wait! I would love to see Nimoy and Noble together in this way -both of them are great. Live long and prosper Fringe – great show!

  • Kevin

Holy crap, that is absolutely PERFECT casting! I can’t wait! Hmm, but I guess I should throw out all my theories about William Bell and Walter Bishop being the same person….

  • Wolfgang Depner

Yes, I agree with the earlier comments about Leonard Nimoy joining Fringe. But if J.J. Abrams is using his Star Trek connections to benefit his television products, should he not think of LOST first?

    • julesbue

Are you kidding? LOST is a good series STAR TREK is a legend.

  • Bryan

If Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, and JJ Abrams are cool with it, then I am. From what I’m hearing about Star Trek, I think these guys can do no wrong.

  • Kelly

I love Fringe. The casting sounds cool. I mean who would have that Victor Garber would have made such a kick butt spydaddy but he rocked it, as did Ron Rifkin as a bad guy. So bring on Spock!

  • Lorie

    AWESOME!!

  • Peter B

It is rare that Nimoy acts anymore. I think any excuse to get him on a show, especially one like Fringe, is a great thing!

  • marcee

Ray Wise is my ultimate bad-guy-head-of-corporation-devil. :)

  • minderbinder

The only thing that would top this would be Nimoy playing Alvar Hanso.

  • karen

    Best. Casting. Ever.

  • side3

Leonard Nimoy is always right for the part!

  • Ben

I love Fringe and this move kicks butt! I can hardly wait to see Noble and Nimoy’s characters interact. Battle of the Mad Scientists!

  • Holly

    Now that’s just priceless!
Can’t wait to see Mr. Nimoy on the show…and get my weekly Walter at the same time.
    Oh, Fangrrl bliss!

  • Shortdawg

If he’s half as good as Shatner was in “Boston Legal,” this should be pretty awesome!
