Matthew Perry shoots down 'Lost' buzz

It was a fun rumor while it lasted. I’m talking about the one that had Matthew Perry showing up in Lost‘s season finale. The ex-Friendster officially squashed the rampant foiler at last night’s Hollywood premiere of 17 Again (opening Friday), in which he plays the grown-up version of Zac Efron.

“It is not true,” says Perry. “I really don’t know why those rumors have been floating about. I have admitted I am a Lost junkie. And at the press junket for [17 Again] I was asked what my favorite TV show was and I said [Lost], so maybe that’s how they started.”

The fact is, Perry wouldn’t appear on Lost even if Team Darlton sent him a handwritten invitation. “That’s probably the one show I wouldn’t do,” he confesses. “I don’t want to know how they shoot it and all that stuff. I don’t want to know the secrets of the smoke monster or the island before other people. I want to be able to sit back and get swept away like everyone else. I want to develop my theories from my armchair. I just want to be a fan.

“Of course, I say that and then six months from now I will end up being an Other,” he adds with a laugh. “If that happens, EW can totally accuse me of being a hypocritical sellout.” (Reporting by Carrie Bell)

He will never be anyone other than Chandler Bing to me.

I didn’t even know that was a legitimate rumor. I thought it was just some April Fools prank by someone who added him to the cast list. But to be honest, although I like Matthew Perry, I wouldn’t really want him to be on Lost. He’s too recognizable and his star quality from all of his other roles would just distract me from the story.

It was confirmed as a hoax over a week ago.

Could that BE any lamer, quashing a rumor that never was!

Can someone add one of these for Jim Carrey too. Another rumor that’s just not gonna happen.

At least she shot down the rumor in a fun way. :)

I don’t want to be a total dork or anything, but I think he could do it. I remember when he was on Scrubs I thought he was probably capable of being a serious actor, not just Chandler Bing the rest of his life. I think it’s smart when someone known for comedy shows that they can do something serious. Robin Williams and Jim Carrey both made wonderful movies when they weren’t be funny (you know, except that No. 23 movie).

Would’ve been great, though, if he was.. I love Matthew Perry, but I understand his reasons for not wanting to.

During the first season of Lost I kept expecting Sydney Bristow to pop out of a hatch, when all along it could be Ross, Rachel, Monica and Chandler.

Matthew Perry was the only good thing about Studio 60, so I think he could do a dramatic role quite well. He needs to start picking better material than stuff like 17 Again, though–come on, Matthew! We all love you! Pick something actually great!

hahah he was talking about it more in depth on http://realgusto.com/ . hilarious dude!

  • Meg

    I love Matthew Perry.
    I miss Friends; mondler.
and he was awesome on Studio 60. he made the show work for me.
I saw him on many things and that guy can act. he can play any part.
    all the best to him!
he should host a late night talk show!
