Exclusive: ABC has its Eye on 'Old Christine'

Julialouisdreyfus_lABC is still carrying a torch for Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

For the second year in a row, the Alphabet net is looking to acquire The New Adventures of Old Christine should CBS opt to cancel it. ABC made a similar bid for the sitcom last spring, but CBS ultimately renewed it.

Although reps for ABC and Warner Bros. declined to comment for this story, a source close to Old Christine says WB execs are engaged in active discussions with ABC about picking up the four-year-old comedy, which once again finds itself on the dreaded bubble at CBS.

Over the weekend, Louis-Dreyfus told EW that she was feeling "confident" about a CBS renewal, but she didn’t rule out a network hop. "I don’t know," she said. "I want a pick-up, period."

What do you think? Is Old Christine worth saving? Do you hope it stays put on CBS? Or would it be a better fit on ABC? Sound off below! (Additional reporting by Lynette Rice and Jenny Sundel)

I adore this show. Besides the NBC comedy ownership of ’30 Rock’ & ‘The Office’, this is the funniest show on television. It’s pitch perfect every week and by FAR the edgiest thing on CBS.

This show is one of the best comedies on TV right now. Its writing and acting are always top notch. No other show on CBS is worth watching. I hope it remains on the air.

great show – let’s hope if they get it abc doesn’t decide to screw it over like they do to other great shows.

Not worth it. ABC has several sitcoms that have bad ratings, why would they need an older sitcom with bad ratings?

This is one of my favorite comedies on TV (besides How I Met Your Mother). It is so fresh and actually funny. It would horrible if it got canceled, but is nice to know that other networks have interest in it. If it does hop networks, I hope it does not change.

This should not of been the network to break the Seinfeld curse, it was good for like half of the first season, but now I think it will actually be renewed so CBS can keep it because it has interest from other networks, also can ABC actually make it’s OWN TV shows instead of stealing from other network’s first Scrubs now Old Christine what’s next? Take “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles” from FOX? or how about “90210” from the CW? This is crazy ABC and I hope I did not spark any ideas for any ABC exec.

it’s on the bubble? i thought it was one of cbs’s biggest comedy hits…

Corecction: ‘show’ not ‘network’, CBS would probably be the ONLY network capable of breaking the curse

i looove this show! i hope cbs doesn’t cancel it, but if they do abc should totally buy it! this show is so funny! it doesn’t deserve to be canceled! i just hope that if abc really buys it, they keep it the way it is :)

I think this show has gotten better and better. I don’t care which network it’s on, as long as it’s back in the fall.

ABC is like the comedy saver as of late. First Scrubs, now this.

This show is awesome but the day & time totally sucks – so I never get to see it!

I think this show fits with ABC’s more woman-centric shows. However, I don’t see ratings increasing with a move. They’d most likely decrease. I ultimately think CBS will renew and keep it on Wednesdays, but if not, I’d like to see it go to ABC as it’s one of the few multi camera comedies that I find entertaining. Christine and Samantha would be a good combo – but we saw what happened when Samantha wasn’t protected with DWTS!

I really like this show and thinks it has funny ideas…but the soft lighting is killing me! and not to mention the horrible theme music! The combo makes it feel like some sort of Lifetime Original sitcom. I want the show to stay on the air, but let’s fix those two things…

Oh, ABC. You kill Pushing Daisies and other good shows and make us hate you, and then you bring Ugly Betty back a week early and offer to save this awesome show and make me love you. Why do you play with my emotions so?
Seriously, though, I hope they do get it, and I hope they treat it better than CBS has. JLD and the whole cast are fantastic.
