'True Blood' scoop: Evan Rachel Wood crowned Queen!

Evanrachelwood_lReady for some fangstastic casting news?

Sources confirm to me exclusively that True Blood creator Alan Ball has tapped Evan Rachel Wood to play the pivotal role of Sophie-Anne, the vampire Queen of Louisiana!

Who dat, you ask? She’s a 500-year-old vampire from France who is charming, wily, ruthless and wise. She’s a consummate diplomat who has (or had) many of history’s most famous people on speed dial.

Short story shorter: It’s a major frakkin’ part, and landing Wood (whose last significant TV gig was Once and Again) is a major frakkin’ coup.

A True Blood insider tells me that Wood is booked for two episodes, both of which will air towards the end of the show’s upcoming second season. But rest assured, if the show is renewed for a third season (and, please, it will be), Wood will be back. Again: Major frakkin’ part.

I was expecting a little younger, but I guess she’s close enough!

But Sophie-Anne is something like 15 years old!!! Or, she was when she died, I mean. Evan Rachel Wood is roughly 22, and not TOO much older than the part calls for, but 22 usually does look different than 15. So….I’m not sure how I feel about this yet. Not like I’ll stop watching the show or anything. Hopefully it’ll all work out.

I LOVE it! Can’t wait for the new season!

  • Riandra

She doesn’t need to do TV. She’s a movie star, now. TV is the place where the forgotten go to. Anna Paquin, yes, Evan Rachel Wood, no.

    • Heather

Anna Paquin is not a goddamn hasbeen! She has a award, and movies that do well. Sophie Ann was 15, in All Together Dead I belive I may be wrong of whivh book but Sookie said that She’d look better in L.A.M.B clothes, thus saying that she is a teenager! They could have gotten a teen for this role after all in The Butterfly Effect they had a younger kid saying the f word and calling a guy a pedo.

This isn’t just TV thank you. It is True Blood which is watched by thousands if not millions of people weekly and now Anna Paquin will be starring in a new movie soooo what do u have to say to that!

      • Kevin

        It’s not TV, it’s HBO

    • Caprica

I prefer a television series than a movie. You get more background on characters and they usually don’t cut out parts like a 120min movie would. Let’s face it we don’t want to see Brad Pitt playing Eric or Bill because we’ll reference his past roles and not pay attention to the story line. It’s too disturbing to use big star actors.

  • Mandi

Not who I would have pictured at all. Sophie Ann is supposed to be 15-16 yrs old and look that young and almost childlike.
This lady looks 22 or older.

  • Reinna

I don’t think age is a problem… I mean, they let Brad Pitt look like a 80 year old man. If they can do that, they surely can make the (absolutely beautiful) Evan Rachel Woods look a little bit younger…
And the books are only the basis of this tv series, it’s not like they’re going to copy-paste every last detail.

  • Seann

Haha. At first I saw that photo and I said to myself, “Tori Amos is not much of an actress.” Anyway, after I cleared that up by reading the article, I remembered how much Evan Rachel Wood really got on my nerves (along with the rest of the cast) in “Across the Universe”. I don’t know if I like her enough as an actress to enjoy her in this role. Time will tell. I’ll remain open-minded.

  • Anne

This is perfect. Yea she’s supposed to be young but you can’t be THAT young on this show. (it’s dirty) plus she’s got just the right additude

  • Seann

Some of you have it all wrong. First off: Evan Rachel Wood is hardly “absolutely beautiful”. Second: she’s not much of a movie star. She picks any wannabe meaningful indie art flick role that’s thrown at her. Anna Paquin is one of the youngest Academy Award-winning actresses ever. She doesn’t do a movie every five minutes, but when she does, she does it right. I was surprised when she agreed to “True Blood”, honestly, and although Sookie is probably my least favorite character, Paquin is definitely a star. She doesn’t just choose art house movies, either. Remember: she played Rogue in all three blockbuster X-Men films. She was one of the finer points of the three movies. To sum it all up: Anna Paquin is indeed a star, in movie and now television. I can assure you that Evan Over-rated Wood will not be that great on True Blood. It’s Paquin’s show, and she’s fantastic.

Hmmm…not too sure about this casting but I love this show so I’ll wait and see how she does.

  • Cameron

I haven’t like her in any role since Once and Again. The same goes for Mischa Barton, her gf on the show.

  • jade

she might be OK … but hey she wont be around too long she does meet her final death so we can take some comfort in that

    • samarah

Again, the books and the series are significantly (not totally, though) different…who knows what Alan Ball will do with the Sophie-Ann character until the episodes air….

  • SM

Ugh. Why does this woman keep getting work? She’s horrible. I think the only reason she got this role was that she was Marilyn Manson’s girlfriend, and that somehow gives her goth cred. Please.

    • estella

take a chill pill! She was great before going out with him haven’t you seen thirteen, running with scissors, pretty persuasions, life before her eyes etc? She is a great actress and was fabby in true blood! What has she ever done to tick you off?

  • Adam

Just ordered HBO for this show! Can’t wait

  • Dominique L.

Seann, check your facts. Tatum O’Neal is the youngest Oscar winner ever.

    • Brooke

Dominique, Seann said “one of the youngest” not “the youngest” check your facts

    • donnaanddavid

hmmmm, dont tell someone to check their facts until you have actually read what they said??? FAIL.lol
that being said True Blood is great and I think all the cast are as well.JMO
