Ask Ausiello: Spoilers on 'Gossip Girl,' 'Grey's,' 'Big Bang,' 'Lost,' 'NCIS,' '90210,' and more!

Ausiellopompeoleighton_l
Question: This two-week Lost hiatus is killing me! More scoopage before the final episodes, please! –Brad
Ausiello:
The major-ish Lost death is coming up soooooon. Also, it’s less ish and more major than I first thought.

Question: Please, please, please give us a hint about whom Sylar kills in Monday’s Heroes season finale! –Claire
Ausiello:
It’s a major character, and the death definitely sticks. But there is a twist. (Hint: It’s possible no one will be leaving the show.) BTW, the finale is fantastic. It’s compelling, suspense-filled and, most importantly, events occur consecutively and in the present day. Heroes is back, people!

Question: Any more Big Bang Theory scoop for the finale? –Hannah
Ausiello:
It’s going to be full of crap! Kaley Cuoco explains: "The [guys] build a toilet and things go horribly wrong. They all find poop hilarious. It’s a space toilet, so I don’t have to use it or anything. Of course, it’s a space toilet on this show!" On the hotly debated subject of a Penny-Sheldon hookup, Cuoco confesses that she’s not a fan of the idea. "I don’t think it makes any sense," she says. "Sheldon has no use for women. If it happened, I bet it would be a nightmare sequence. Sheldon is nowhere near boyfriend material and Penny loves him that way. [Besides], Sheldon barely lets her into his apartment — how would he get to the point of hooking up with her?"

Question: Your single-topic AA on Grey’s gave us nothing on the best couple, Meredith and Derek! Please, can you give us something juicy? — Hayley
Ausiello:
Okay, here’s something: A longtime Grey’s duo are about to break up — presumably for good — and it’s not Derek and Meredith. Nope. It’s Bailey and Tucker! In the May 14 season finale, Bailey takes the bold step of leaving her husband after he once again fails to support her career.

Question: Can you tell us how much time has lapsed between the elevator proposal episode of Grey’s and the episode that airs this week? –Jasmin
Ausiello:
A few days, I believe. It’s not long at all.

Question: I’ve decided that I want your job. May I ask, how good is the pay? –Saramarie
Ausiello:
Where I come from, it’s tacky to discuss such things in public. It’s not, however, tacky to show you a picture of the second home I just purchased in the Hamptons and let you draw your own conclusions.

Question: Any scoop on the anticipated Thatcher return on Grey’s next week? I’m hoping for some overdue Meredith and Lexie scenes! –Dana
Ausiello:
Two of my favorite Mer-Lexie scenes ever take place in next week’s episode, but it’s more a result of the thorny Derek-Mark situation than Thatcher’s return.

Question: Any insight on what is going to happen with Mer-Der now that Ellen Pompeo is preggers in real life? –R Aliberti
Ausiello:
If you’re asking me whether there’s a McBaby in their future, I don’t know. I can tell you that if Pompeo takes the standard two-month maternity leave following the birth of her first child this fall, Grey’s could be Mer-less for a portion of next season. Maybe they’ll send her to some really long medical convention. Or dispatch her to the parking lot to look for Dr. Hahn. The possibilities are endless!

Question: Will Jeffrey Dean Morgan be appearing in Grey’s Anatomy’s 100th episode? –Javier
Ausiello:
Let’s examine the evidence, shall we? Exhibit A: Morgan appeared in the 100th ep photo-op, which took place on the Grey’s set during filming of the said 100th episode. Exhibit B: The official logline for the landmark ep says, "Izzie fears the worst when she begins experiencing familiar symptoms." Exhibit C: I have to warn you that this one’s really spoilery, but I’m hearing … wait, what’s that? The jury of Ausholes has already reached a unanimous verdict? Eh, so much for my Exhibit C. It was really good, too.

Question: Please give us some more dish on Law & Order: SVU‘s death mystery! –Bri
Ausiello:
I doubt there will be many fans mourning this person’s passing. I’ll leave it at that.

Question: Any advance scoop on Glee? The commercials alone make me smile. –Chris
Ausiello:
I’m in love with the commercials. I want to marry the commercials. I want to have babies with the commercials. Unfortunately, I only want to date the actual show. That’s right, the revised pilot for the program I’ve been prematurely raving about for months recently fell on my lap and, well, it didn’t exactly wow me. The good news: There’s more tweaking going on that may address some of my complaints — most of which concern the schizophrenic pacing and tone. Bottom line: There’s an awesome show in there somewhere and I’m praying Ryan Murphy finds it by May 19. And if not by May 19, then by next fall when it returns.

Question: Any scoop on who is going to die on CSI: NY? Is it someone shown in the opening credits? — Carissa
Ausiello:
Yes. And as exec producer Pam Veasey reveals, in addition to the death "something happens to someone else. There will be a life-changing experience for another character." Veasey declined to say whether that something was good or bad, although she did offer what could be a clue: "We really want to have a hopeful and heroic start to next season. It’ll be really positive, fun, and spirited."

Question: I’m happy Lindsay’s returning to CSI: NY next month, but do we know for a fact Anna Belknap ever gave birth? I searched high and low on the Interwebs but I can’t find any info about it. –Claire
Ausiello:
That’s probably because there’s no info to be found — until now! Sources confirm to me exclusively that Anna gave birth to her second child, son George, on Feb. 6. (You’re welcome, Google.)

Question: 24 scoop, please! –Matt
Ausiello:
Chloe returns next week! Woo-hoo! And she’s forced to work alongside Janice! Double woo-hoo!

Question: You said that NCIS fans shouldn’t be worried about Michael Weatherly leaving, so tell me straight out: Is Cote de Pablo leaving the show? — Jillian
Ausiello:
All exec producer Shane Brennan would tell me is that the season ends "on a cliff, not so much a hanger." Um, huh? "It’s an episode that will compel people to come back for the first episode next season," he elaborates. "They will have to come back and watch what happens in the first episode next season because of what we do at the very end of this season. We’ve already worked out what that episode is. We’ve got a fantastic season opener that is set up in the finale. The thing about the opener for next season is, once again, your expectations of what you think you’re going to see will be turned on their head with the season premiere. I’m a great believer in tying the audience in knots over the summer. It’ll have people arguing whether it was a good thing or a bad thing and what the outcome will be." Still a little confused about the difference between a cliff and a hanger, but I’m admittedly not the brainiest Smurf in the village.

Question: Got anything on Psych? –Sean
Ausiello:
I’ve got the first significant piece of guest casting for season 4! In an early eppy, Christine Baranski will play Alice Clayton, the well-maintained widow of a billionaire hedge fund manager who believes her husband’s death in a plane crash was not  accidental, but murder.

Question: Here is my weekly request for some Private Practice scoop. –Stacey
Ausiello:
Prepare yourselves for the most disturbing childbirth scene since Jessica Lange forced Gwyneth Paltrow to deliver her baby via an oxytocin-laced layer cake in 1998′s Hush.

Question: Got any information on the upcoming season of Weeds? –Brandon
Ausiello:
I’m hearing Silas is going to take on a partner to help run his little business.

Question: 90210 has turned a corner. I’m hooked. Scoop, please. –Tiffany
Ausiello:
It’s so bad it’s awesome, right? Here’s a little big scooplet: Liam will sleep with someone in the finale … and it’s not Naomi! (Or *****!)

Question: Any chance Dustin Milligan will return to 90210 to wrap up his story next season? –Ian
Ausiello:
No. He will not be back.

Question: I read somewhere that the season finale of Gossip Girl includes Serena uncovering the identity of GG. Will she be successful? –Mike
Ausiello:
She uncovers the identity of someone connected to GG, but not GG herself.

Question: I need Gossip Girl scoop, preferably about the prom. –Lindsay
Ausiello:
Revenge-seeking Chuck, furious at Blair for attending the big ball with Nate, hatches a plan to make Nelly Yuki prom queen. Meanwhile, Dan and Serena end up going together, but as friends, not lovers.

Question: Please give some good Desperate Housewives scoops! Is it true that Bree is going to have an affair with Karl? –Martin
Ausiello:
Can’t confirm an affair. Can confirm a kiss.

Question: Are Mike and Susan ever going to get back together on Desperate Housewives? I’m really thinking of tanking the show next year if not. Give us some good news, please! –Nadine
Ausiello:
James Denton and Teri Hatcher told us at PaleyFest ’09 that it’s "inevitable" the two will reunite, but neither had specifics on when. "It’s always been Marc Cherry’s plan to have them together by the end of the show," said Hatcher. "But I think the road getting there is getting bumpier and bumpier." Added Denton: "I think there will definitely be at least another near miss for them,  but for the rest of the season and the near future, it is Mike and Katherine. They are getting pretty secure. We are already living together. And I think there may be some engagement news on the horizon."

Question: I haven’t heard anything on Greek in a while. Any scoop? –Jaclyn
Ausiello:
"The finale has a really good cliffhanger," Scott Michael Foster (Cappie) revealed at Saturday’s GLAAD Awards in Los Angeles. "And Jesse McCartney plays a really big part of that cliffhanger. It has a lot to do with him and Rusty …. I guess I get some action, too. In my women’s studies class I’m the only guy, so the ladies are like sitting ducks. Of course, he will always be at least partly stuck on Casey." What’s Casey doing while Cappie’s getting busy? She’s getting busy herself! "She gets a lot of action … from multiple sources," confirmed Spencer Grammer. "Cappie is her soul mate, but she’s young and she doesn’t always see that."

Question: Got anything on the Supernatural finale that you don’t have to block out with hundreds of asterisks? –David
Ausiello:
Comic book geek-slash-prophet Chuck will be back! See, no asterisks!

Okay, that’s a wrap! Send questions-anonymous tips-housewarming gift certificates to ausielloscoop@ew.com Thanks for playing! (Additional reporting by Carrie Bell)

'True Blood' scoop: Evan Rachel Wood crowned Queen!

Categories: True Blood

Evanrachelwood_lReady for some fangstastic casting news?

Sources confirm to me exclusively that True Blood creator Alan Ball has tapped Evan Rachel Wood to play the pivotal role of Sophie-Anne, the vampire Queen of Louisiana!

Who dat, you ask? She’s a 500-year-old vampire from France who is charming, wily, ruthless and wise. She’s a consummate diplomat who has (or had) many of history’s most famous people on speed dial.

Short story shorter: It’s a major frakkin’ part, and landing Wood (whose last significant TV gig was Once and Again) is a major frakkin’ coup.

A True Blood insider tells me that Wood is booked for two episodes, both of which will air towards the end of the show’s upcoming second season. But rest assured, if the show is renewed for a third season (and, please, it will be), Wood will be back. Again: Major frakkin’ part.

Ratings: 'American Idol' wins but takes a dip on Disco Night

Disco Night on American Idol wasn’t kind to Lil Rounds — or to the ratings. The performance show was down more than a million viewers compared to last week’s Movie Night. The Dancing With the Stars‘ results show also took a dip week-to-week, down about 800,000 viewers.

'Ugly Betty' exclusive: Henry's back!

Categories: Ugly Betty

Uglybetty_l

This could get ugly.

Christopher Gorham has closed a deal to reprise his role as Betty’s ex-love Henry, setting the stage for a geektastic showdown with her current beau, Matt (Daniel Eric Gold).

Ugly Betty creator Silvio Horta confirms to me exclusively that Gorham — who’s currently trying to stay alive on CBS’ Harper’s Island — will reappear in the show’s two-hour season finale on May 21 when Betty runs into Henry and his new girlfriend Chloe (played by Gossip Girl‘s Dreama Walker) in the Big Apple. To prove to themselves that they’ve moved on, Betty and Henry agree to go on a double date to a Mets game with their respective significant others. Good times, right? Not exactly…

“As Henry and Betty reconnect, it could potentially threaten her relationship with Matt,” teases Horta, who adds that he’s “really happy” to have Gorham back in the fold. “Chris has always been, and will always be, part of the Ugly Betty family.”

But how big a part of the family will he be? Horta isn’t saying whether Gorham will be back in the fall, which leaves me with no other choice than to pose the following question to you fine folks: Who are you rooting for: Team Matt or Team Henry? Sound off in the comments! Oh, and don’t forget: Betty returns next Thursday!

Ratings: 'American Idol' wins another weekly race

Categories: TV Ratings

The weekly ratings report is beginning to sound like a broken record: Once again, Fox’s American Idol took the top spot with its two episodes drawing 24.4 million and 24.1 million viewers for the seven-day period ending April 19. ABC’s Dancing With the Stars — which started its season nipping at the heels of American Idol — stayed firmly put at No. 3, drawing 19.5 million viewers. CBS’ CSI (No. 4, 15.7 million) and the results hour of Dancing With the Stars (No. 5, 15.2 million) rounded out the Top 5 for the week.

The rest of the Top 20 included no surprises. There were no new premieres or specials to speak of, so it was filled out with Two and a Half Men, Desperate Housewives, a host of CBS procedurals, and The Amazing Race, to name a few of the usual suspects. The full Top 20 is after the jump.

1. American Idol | Fox | 24.4 million
2. American Idol | Fox | 24.1 million
3. Dancing With the Stars | ABC | 19.5 million
4. CSI | CBS | 15.7 million

Exclusive: ABC has its Eye on 'Old Christine'

Julialouisdreyfus_lABC is still carrying a torch for Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

For the second year in a row, the Alphabet net is looking to acquire The New Adventures of Old Christine should CBS opt to cancel it. ABC made a similar bid for the sitcom last spring, but CBS ultimately renewed it.

Although reps for ABC and Warner Bros. declined to comment for this story, a source close to Old Christine says WB execs are engaged in active discussions with ABC about picking up the four-year-old comedy, which once again finds itself on the dreaded bubble at CBS.

Over the weekend, Louis-Dreyfus told EW that she was feeling "confident" about a CBS renewal, but she didn’t rule out a network hop. "I don’t know," she said. "I want a pick-up, period."

What do you think? Is Old Christine worth saving? Do you hope it stays put on CBS? Or would it be a better fit on ABC? Sound off below! (Additional reporting by Lynette Rice and Jenny Sundel)

'Project Runway,' Valerie Bertinelli on Lifetime's upcoming schedule

Categories: Television

Lifetime is still celebrating the liberation of its newest, biggest acquisition — Project Runway, once Bravo’s marquee hit — from lawsuit-related delays. But at its upfront presentation today the net also announced a schedule packed with new shows and movies, from a Runway spin-off to Cybill Shepard and Valerie Bertinelli sitcoms to a Joan Allen-Jeremy Irons film. Some of the highlights…

Project Runway and Models of the Runway The sixth season of the addictive hit returns Aug. 20 with host Heidi Klum, mentor Tim Gunn, and judges Michael Kors and Nina Garcia aboard despite the network jumping and legal entanglements. (Gunn and Garcia appeared at Lifetime’s media lunch to show just how aboard they are: "I want to sing the praises of Lifetime’s parenting of the show," Gunn assured us. And if you’ve watched the show, you know how absurdly assuring he is.) The differences this time around? The 16 new contestants will compete on the streets of L.A., Garcia has moved to Marie Claire from Elle, and it seems there’ll be ever more celeb-guest appeal. (Think Lindsay Lohan.) The hour show will also be followed each week by a 30-minute episode of Models of the Runway, a behind-the-scenes look at the ladies who showcase the designers’ wares.

Army Wives The weepy hit drama will return for its third season on June 7, with a fourth season already picked up.

Drop Dead Diva A new dramedy about a "beautiful but shallow model" who’s killed only to find her soul trapped in the body of "brilliant, thoughtful, and plus-size attorney" Jane (Brooke Elliott). She conveniently gets Jane’s intellect, too, even though she seems to also have her own memories. Which maybe means your soul is in your frontal lobe but not your cerebral cortex? Or something like that? Anyway, it’s part serialized drama/soap/fun, part procedural law show, it features Margaret Cho as Jane’s assistant (yay!), and it debuts July 12.

Syndicated hits Grey’s Anatomy and Medium reruns hit the airwaves this September, How I Met Your Mother in September 2010.

New comedy pilots Alligator Point, described as "Cheers in
a Southern oyster bar," stars Cybill Shepherd in a pilot directed and
produced by Kelsey Grammer. Valerie Bertinelli plays a single mom with,
um, single-mom-type problems in a still-untitled sitcom, and The View‘s Sherri Shepherd headlines Sherri, about a recently divorced woman getting back on her feet.

More dramas in development A 13-episode anthology series, Marry Me, will start with a couple meeting in the pilot and end with a wedding — though not necessarily theirs. Mona Lisa Smile will give the Julia Roberts movie the hour-long series treatment. And speaking of Ms. Roberts, Mystic Pizza: Another Slice will update the beloved film in a two-hour TV movie that could become a series pilot.

New reality Lifetime trots out its own take on people with lots of kids, Multiple Mayhem – sure, the couple in question have mere triplets, but they move into a town where there’s lots of triplets! Take that, Jon and Kate! Deadbeat Dads will feature intrepid track-downs of dudes who don’t pay child support but drive fancy cars. And Tough as Nails will follow a lady contractor.

Movies Maneater, based on Gigi Levangie Grazer’s bestseller, will premiere May 30, starring Sarah Chalke. Acceptance, with Joan Cusack as a mom who’ll do anything to get her daughter into a good college, is slated for August. September’s Georgia O’Keeffe stars Joan Allen and Jeremy Irons as the famous painter and her photographer love. And Michelle Pfeiffer-Ashton Kutcher vehicle Personal Effects – a straight-to-DVD movie Lifetime recently acquired — will debut in November.

'Slumdog Millionaire' trust says it's looking after child star Rubina Ali

Categories:

A trust established by the makers of Best Picture Oscar winner Slumdog Millionaire told EW via a statement today that it was looking after the welfare of the film’s child stars. The statement from the Jai Ho Trust comes in the wake of reports that the father of 9-year-old Slumdog actress Rubina Ali allegedly tried to sell his daughter for more than $300,000 when reporters from Britain’s News of the World newspaper made the offer as part of an undercover sting operation. Ali’s father, Rafiq Qureshi, has denied that he intended to sell his daughter. Indian police are currently investigating the matter.

The Jai Ho Trust (which is in part supported by Slumdog director Danny Boyle and producer Christian Colson) issued the following statement:

The Jai Ho Trust was established with financial support from the filmmakers of Slumdog Millionaire to support the welfare of child stars of the film. The trust is in regular contact with Rubina Ali and her family and has hired a social worker to assist in looking after her welfare and that of her co-star [Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail].

The Trust will support Rubina, her parents and responsible authorities, to ensure that the rights and best interests of Rubina are protected.

1.) The family will be provided with suitable accommodation;
2.) The family will be provided with a fixed sum of money every month towards their living costs;
3.) Education costs for Rubina, Azharuddin and their siblings will be provided for by the Trust;
4.) A lump sum will be built up for each of the children which will be available to them for tertiary education or business development after they turn 18 years old and at the discretion of the trustees.
5.) A trained social worker will be hired by the Trust to periodically counsel the children and the family.

The Jai Ho Trust requests the media consider the possible negative impacts of the recent media scrutiny on 9-year-old Rubina, and assist in protecting her interests through sensitive reporting to limit further unnecessary exploitation of her rights and interests.

Ratings: 'Dancing With the Stars' keeps ABC on top on Monday

Categories: Television, TV Ratings

Dancing With the Stars was down one celebrity from last week, but the ratings were up by nearly a million Monday night, according to overnight data. That translated to week-to-week increases of more than a million viewers for both its lead-out, the Bob Saget comedy Surviving Suburbia, and Nathan Fillion’s Castle. Fox finished the night behind the Alphabet with a special episode of Bones that led into a regularly scheduled 24. CBS came in a close third by spending the night in repeats, save for a new Rules of Engagement. NBC took a distant fourth.

Casting scoops: 'Ugly Betty,' 'Burn Notice,' and 'Californication'

Hasselbeckdonovanwitt_l_3What would a Monday Wednesday Thursday Tuesday be without a fresh batch of exclusive casting scoops? A pretty dull Monday Wednesday Thursday Tuesday!

•    Burn Notice has tapped Michael Weston — the real Michael Weston — to guest star opposite Jeffrey Donovan (aka the fake Michael Westen) in a season 3 episode. Weston (the real one from House and Six Feet Under) will play Spencer, an unbalanced MIT grad who turns to Westen (the fake one) when he uncovers a plot to sell the names of undercover spies. Dude thinks aliens are behind it, hence the unbalanced part.

•    One-time Law & Order: CI detective Alicia Witt will guest star as a sexy gynecologist that Hank (David Duchovny) crushes on in the upcoming third season of Californication. Additionally, In Treatment‘s Embeth Davidtz has been cast as the wife of Peter Gallagher’s dean in 10 episodes of the Showtime dramedy.

•    An Ugly Betty source confirms that polar-opposite View hostesses Joy Behar and Elisabeth Hasselbeck will play themselves in the May 21 season finale. Here’s the set-up: Daniel is invited to appear as a guest to discuss the latest issue of Mode magazine… or so he thinks. The ladies quickly turn the tables and start grilling him about his dying girlfriend. BTW, if you haven’t heard, Betty‘s returning one week earlier on April 30!! Also, SNL‘s Rachel Dratch appears in this episode as a Mode staffer!! Why the hell am I screaming?!
