I have a love/hate relationship with this show. I DO collect the comics, but it’s not just because of that. It’s that they usually have about ONE episode that doesn’t repeat past storylines and is good, and that is usually bookended by a good season finale and a lukewarm season premiere. Well, this must be some sort of a Bizzaro season for Smallville, because the premiere was better than lukewarm and this was an unusually strong season. It’s a shame this finale was so disappointing. I could care less that the “real” Jimmy made an appearance at the funeral. I DID like Aaron and eventually liked his character, but the whole Clark/Doomsday fight? Fail. Lois finding a Legion ring and disappearing? Fail. Clark renouncing his “weak” human side? Fail. Zod? Really? I don’t know. Guess I was expecting it to be better than that based on the previous 21 episodes.
While I wasn’t really expecting it, I thought there was a strong possibility of it when they started having Jimmy do drugs the last several episodes. I assumed that was the writers way to have the audience detach themselves from Jimmy and not like him as much.
I am interested to see what happens with Lois. I’m guessing she was sent to the future. Might be a good Season 9 opener.
I’m thrilled that they finally killed Jimmy off. The character never gelled in the storyline. And it always bothered me that Jimmy was the wrong age. I also liked the little Jimmy twist. But having the Davis alter-ego suddenly turn into a crazed killer was totally implausible and seemed to come out of left field.
Interesting twist, and one way to keep us from suspecting it’d be “Jimmy” dying. I was half-expecting a reload when Lois time-traveled (I assumed) and to remove Jimmy knowing Clark’s secret.
That said, I guess we have our storylines for next season. With Lois, what happens when she returns from whenever she ended up? With Chloe, does she get the League back together now that she’s more Oracle-like than ever, and how long til we suspect she dies again? With Doomsday…yeah, quick fight kills him, don’t think so, expect a rematch. With the orb/Kandor, I’m guessing they’re followers of Zod.
Which leads into Clark, who will get to see a Kryptonian civilization I’m guessing, while attempting to purge his humanity. He’s been so over on the human side, and we saw the pure Kryptonian Clark once, so how does Clark find the balance? Without that, he can’t be Superman, so I imagine that discovery will be throughout season 9.
I’m glad that they killed Jimmy off/ Although I was hoping that Tess would die too. She is annoying! And not a very good actress. Lois is annoying too. But, I knew Smallville would never kill her off. . . .
It sucks that they did this to Ashmore. For years, they told him he was Jimmy Olsen. This “twist” was cheap and poorly executed. The whole season finale basically threw out the past 10 episodes — very poorly written.
I’ve been a fan of SV since the pilot, but they lost me as a viewer. I’m not coming back in S9 to see more of this drivel and to see more Chloe Sullivan’s character suck the soul out of the Superman mythos.
I did not suspect Jimmy at all…just really caught me off guard.
Fine, the little brother is Jimmy.. but what about the ridiculous age difference between him and Lois now? It’s WAY too big. It doesn’t match up.
This is a very lazy way around the mythos. It only would have been worse if the entire show was Clark’s dream as a 5 year old boy. LAME. I’m glad I stopped watching this crap last season.
the worse smallville ever.. i understand jimmys death dont like it but i understand… but man was clark weak when it came to doomsday i know u say the strayed a little from the comics but clark didnt even put up a fight he got whooped by doomsday since they introduced him the episode shold have been atleast two hours long seeing how as they introuduced a character that killed superman so early even before he is superman whats up with that? and why is it taking so long for him to b superman there should have been a major fight scene between clark and doomsday.. so since he met doomsday so early will superman die according to these writers?? and last we saw ms lane put on the ring and go to the future so why didnt they give us a cut scene with lois in the future with that omg where am i face?? come on you guys are massacring a classic.. FIRE THESE PRODUCERS!!!!! NOW
Aaron was one of the best actor’s on the show. I’m really gonna miss that guy. His exit and his brother’s intro was creative, and I agree it works well for the story, but at the end of the day, I’LL MISS YOU, MR. ASHMORE!!!
Poor Jimmy. It should have been Lois. Also I did not appreciate Smallville bringing back Chloe/Jimmy. That is possibly the worst ship and they had to bring it back. I understand that they wanted Jimmy to get a sort of happy send of but come on.
The Doomsday fight was anti-climactic. The writer’s have been building up for the fight between the 2 Kryptonians all season, and we get a fight that lasts 20 seconds? And not even a fight?! Doomsday looked cheap! The entire story after Lois vs Tess was RUSH RUSH RUSH RUSH RUSHED!
And that said, what good is teasing ZOD’s return knowing that the writers are not going to deliver on a showdown between the villain and Clark, as proven with the Clark vs Doomsday story. FAIL.
So wait.. the little brother will act and speak and use nicknames EXACTLY like his older, dead brother? What the f***??
Why are the writers so lazy?? I’m very glad to see so many other fans outraged. This is insane and ridiculous.
That episode was…wow. Talk about incoherent. It jumped from plot point to plot point without actually resolving the one before, everyone’s acting was below par, and after an entire season’s build up for a knock down drag out fight between Clark and Doomsday, their meeting it was the most anti-climactic scene of the whole series. I’ve always thought Smallville was an extremely flawed, but still very entertaining show, but this episode was just plain poor. What a let down.
After all that strong Chloe-Davis-Clark emotional angst, they make Davis a killer and Clark indifferent. Nice, Smallville. Way to PISS OFF EVERYONE. THIS FINALE SUCKED.
